Talk about inconvenient.
Dad ordered “The inconvenient truth” from Amazon.com and it turned up here in NTSC format. Great Our DVD player won’t open the disc, and the PC wants its region to be set to USA/Canada. Trouble is, it says that we can only set the region up to 4 times before it locks in. DVD shrink wants the region to be set for it as well. I was hoping I could reformat it to PAL, but I don’t think DVD Shrink can do that. Does anyone know of any work arounds. Failing that, any suggestions on (good and free) programs for reformatting the disc. |

DVD Shrink has an option to remove all region coding.
Failing that, DVD Decrypter might also work (although, from memory, it might only make direct clones) I'm not 100% sure, it's been so long since I've used either of them. |

1) Buy a $40 DVD player from Crazy Clarks or Aldi as most of them are region-free.
2) (WARNING: NAUGHTY PART) Use DVD decrypter to rip it to disk as I believe it can strip the region code, then reburn with Nero Recode. Personally, I'd go for option #1 as it's easier. |

Option 2 is easier and cheaper. Use DVD Shrink or 1 Click DVD and all your troubles will be gone.

Also, tell your dad to stop buying things on the internet.. it's not designed for old people.

Google your set top dvd player. You should be able to find the codes to set the region to ALL or atleast the codes to change it between region 1 and 4. |

I burned an R6 disc to try, my mum's portable dvd player said fu, wrong region, but media player classic (and our uber leet stand alone dvd player) said omg gimme more MORE DAMMIT! and played it happily. |
