all though if the races are as packed as they were last big event that will really suck, being locked out for hours was crap guns.

actually that's 2 years in a row that I have missed the melb cup

Last year I was in NZ, little story, picked a mistery trifector online at nsw tab and got it up - I won $3,500 which partially paid for my NZ trip wooooot

I'll try again this year!!

anyone else got hot tips?

Last year I watched a lot of people get very drunk, all for free and on company time :(

This year I will most likely be at home, watching it alone (if at all). No fun if you don't have a workplace to shre it with.

g'day g'day..
haven't followed the spring racing much this year unfortunately but been having a look just now for some tips for you fellas

Derby Day!

3 Efficient
5 Egomaniac
7 Gorky Park

Grunt's thoughts:

wouldn't mind a trifecta on those three in the derby tomorrow, although bigtime races you've always gotta worry about god.

that's darren beadman's horse at 6 Get Square at $6.50 on centrebet. watch that to shorten massively as the plebs see the only name they can recognise and shorten him up to probably around the 3-3.20 mark not even sure what odds the TAB will give you straight up on him anyway so if you're at the track hit the bookies for a good price.
PROTIP: don't take efficient standalone winner, he may be a red hot chance at winning this, but it's not worth losing ya hard earned on a short priced favourite. i'm looking at a disgusting $1.24 here for the place. i only include him in the tri cos i take my two best with the fav so maybe have a look of swapping him up for "Get Square".

At the moment i'm not going to throw any tips in for the oaks or the cup, but come the day before check back here for Protip Axn.

Can you place bets online? I am in Bangkok ATM and am heading to London tonight, so I guess Monday night is when it will all be taking place for me...

I don't even know the names of the horses - someone hook me up with some good tips.

If anyone else on here is from the UK, can you place bets at TAB's there for the Melb Cup?

i would assume you can Zak.. it's a pretty big race and there's some european horses.. normally big events they show don't they.. if not they put everything on centrebet.com but you have to sign up and all so don't know if it's worth it for just once race.. especially not the melbourne cup.. lol

zak all the local betting agencies in the UK will have the race, as they do in Ireland!

P.S how long are you in UK for? We should catch up for beers, you seem like a good bloke who loves live music :)

If you want to win money you should be placing trifectas and each-way, betting ftw never pays off.

I signed up with centerbet for the melbourne cup several weeks ago. I've already pulled out 8x what i put in, and that includes covering my bets for today which were done about a month ago when the odds were much better :-)

I didn't know anything about horses at all back then, and i know not much more now, except that if today's winner is Yeats immediately followed by Pop Rock i'll be quite happy.

I think it was the horse that had its moment in the sun by running second for most of the race then (I assume) coughed up a lung and died coming onto the straight.

i got 3rd with "mayber better" didn't bet much on the race this year normally i don't bet much on melbourne cup.. i put 10 x $3 mystery trifectas and $20 to win on maybe better.

none of my mysteries got up.
my dad.. did the same..
2 of his mysteries came up, paying $550 something each.. f***ing c***.

i'm the bar supervisor at cha cha char, on eagle st. i bent over at 10am on tuesday morning and sat down for a beer at 1245am on wednesday morning. the only time i didn't have a huge cock of a shift up my ass is for the total sum of my 5 ciggarettes. but we blew last years record by 7k. and i got rather tippled afterwards. and felt really average on wednesday for a split shift. only knew the race was on because everyone started shouting. told everyone who asked i had no idea how to gamble and couldn't fill out their form for them.

the moral of the story?

i hate horses.
