Hi guys im looking at buying a digi vid cam pretty soon but i have crap all idea when it comes to this sort of thing, i know there's a few photographers in the mix so i thought I'd throw it out here and see what people know :)

I want something small, as im heading O/S and luggage space is pretty vital (plus the smaller it is the more chance i'll have it on me when i need it heh)

my budget is around $1000-1500 and have been seriously considering this sony DCRDVD703 anyone have one or heard about them? Also what features are good to look for etc. Any feedback would be great, cheers in advance.

Sony make very good digicams, I have the old DCR-TRV33E and it does a wonderful job. I got it even though it was a superceded model at the time because I got a great price offered and it does 16:9 format recording which is important if you are going to be using that type of tv. Other than the usual things like good battery life, firewire support and screen contrast/ size ect..

I just checked out the one you have listed and it certainly looks like a nice piece of kit and impresses me with just how much they keep improving the technology, the image stabiliser is a great thing to have...damn it I think I might go and get one of them myself!

Also I have used Static Ice to find that camera for $1077.77 over at PCAU for your info as well.

dvd is "ok", but you're stuck with short recording times. go one of the sony hard drive cams.
