A demo of Trainz, the latest game from Brisbane developer Auran now has a demo:
Trainz is quite unique in its approach and features elements that have not been addressed in other games like it. Players are able to design and build their very own virtual railroad. They create their own imaginative environments where their tracks will lie and when they're done they can grab their engineer caps and ride the rails!
Props to boxhead for word. Grab it now locally from AusGamers Files and start saying "choo-choo"!

Mmm, trainz demo. But it doesnt compare to the real thing!

Trainz demo only lets you:

* Muck around in surveyor, you cant save your work
* Drive around on the britain layout
* Have only 2 items to choose from, 1 engine and 1 item of rolling stock

Heheh.

yer, trains aint exactly the pinnacle of best selling ideas. Didn't MS have a sim-train proggy? I mean, its not like you can even steer a train.

doober - the main selling point behind trainz that I can determine is that its basically just model railroading on your PC. Microsofts Train Simulator is just that, a real life train simulator, like flight sim to real life aviation.

The good thing about Trainz is that you can have a HUGE layout, and not actually need the space in real life to do it, plus it can be as big as you want, the only limiting factor is really your computer.

Sure, it isn't going to be a game everyone else would like, but I enjoy it because I've got a good interest in model railroading, and trains in real life.

The same rule applies to this thread as any other thread about any game: If you don't like it, and don't have anything constructive to say, you can pretty much shut the hell up?

excuse my naivity, but what exactly is the point of trainz.

Meh. I liked Trainz Surveyor back when it was called the Dark Reign 2 editor and it had a game behind it that ran faster than 10fps on a high-spec'd athlon.

hmph, if i don't like it i'm certainly free to say so aren't i? it works both ways you know. constructive comments are only useful when you think there is something to be improved, my point was that the basis of it was not terribly exciting (and yes, i know, some people here like it - good for them)

cyph: same
we've got 2 big HO scale model layouts downstairs using marklin trains (high qual german stuff)

can't see myself paying $100 for the game yet though, maybe if it comes down to 60-70..

Hey cool, this is still on the front page of qgl news!

Doober - wasnt directing the last bit at you, was just directing it for people who were going to say silly things.

swat0r - hrm, got any piccies of those layouts? I'd like to see them.

I'd say its worth the $100, but simply because its something I like, which is all that really matters.

And I got a new vid card for xmas so I can run trainz even better! :)
