Saw this tonight - quite a tidy and pretty well put together film. Rather bleak and vaguelly plausible. The principle concept, sudden and total infertility of women, could have been explained or at least presented in a more compelling fashion. That said I suspect that this was a deliberate choice, much like the open and 'unfinished' feel at athe end. Anyway, tonight was the first time in a while that I've been to the flicks and didn't feel somehow cheated by the film I watched. I'd recommend watching it if you're looking for something to see and are going to the movies anyway - otherwise maybe keep an eye out for it when it hits DVD, as it's not the sort of film that demands a big screen viewing. |

Yer, I like Clive Owen and I'm an intrigued by the premise of the the film.
But, I'm not that interested that I would allow the freckle of my wallet to be violated for $14.50 by the insatiable plague that is BCC cineplex's and the limp-wristed, corporate jihadists that run it. In other words, I'll take your advice and wait for it on DVD. |

I saw this movie last night.
My god, it was terrible. It could have been so much better, acting was weak, storyline would have been ok if the scriptwriter wasn't smoking crack or cocaine. Don't even bother with this pile of s*** on DVD, spend the $20 on tobasco sauce and rub it into your eyeballs for more enjoyment. |

Tobasco sauce is delicious, rubbing it in your eyes would be such a waste :(

Nothing about the acting stood out to me as being fundamentally poor, do you have an example or was it just a gut feeling? Normally when objecting to really bad acting there's a singular "nnnnnnoooooooooooooo!" moment that stands out, was there something that nagged at you? Some of the combat scenes were f***ing awesome, and at least for me had a real sting of feeling real and gritty rather than the usual hollywood action tripe. I was a bit disappointed that the premise wasn't explored more deeply, but at least they didn't introduce a Dr Evil character responsible for everything who explains his diabolical plot while holding the protagonist captive muahah. It is more a commentary and exploration of what would happen to society without the hope of a next generation to carry on. The way that the government was handling refugees was a nice reflection of western conservative politics today. Again, they didn't really reveal why the world went f***ed, they just left it as a given. Anyway each to their own I guess :) I do think you were being a bit harsh though, at no time were my eyeballs dipped in acid during the viewing of this film. |

I guess you're right - I was kind of harsh on the movie, I just felt it could have been a lot better unfortunately. The bits which annoyed me were all over the place - the storyline didn't feel like it went anywhere, they didn't explain anything about Nigel (who he got transit papers off, why his son was taking pills, why he lived in lavish luxury) anything like that, it was just ok we'll go to him in a nice car. The combat scene was ok, the fact that they had red dye (not blood ok) on the lense of the camera for about 4 minutes s*** me off for some reason as well. The fact he literally just ran and dodged the whole time was ok while everybody else around him got picked off and died. Who the f*** were the fishers? They barely explained anything about this side of things, they had some policital motive but it was pretty hazy for me. Just a few things which stood out for me, it just seemed like a real mess of a movie with no significant storyline or plot, it was basically guy who is a drunk for some reason, protects girl, gets her to some spot, end. |

If you find xmen intelectual, then this movie will confuse you and leave you baffled. The storyline is not hidden at all its very easy to see, what you probably mean is there is no big morale ie. "the good guys always win" (pretty much any hollywood flick).
Its sci fi without aliens, robots or lasers. |

I actually quite liked th efact that they didn't make a big point out of explaining who everyone and every thing was. It always just seems contrived when someone's secretary walks in and goes "Mr Boss man, someone important is here who would like to talk to you about [something that explains your job completely]."
We didn't need to know who Nigel was or what his job was really. The point that he was Clive Owen's cousin, and that he was in a position of influence was plainly made. We didn't really need to know anything more. That's basically a common theme throughout the whole thing actually. We don't know why people are no longer able to conceive - the movie isn't about that, its about what happens as a result. We don't get to find out more than a vague outline of Jasper's story. We don't know who the Fisher's are other than that they are obviously a pretty radical group in an already pretty freaked out world. Its pretty obviously a deliberate choice on the director's part not to belabour the point and painfully explain everything. I guess it pissed you off where I found it vaguelly refreshing in a film that everything wasn;t neatly explained and tied up. As for the major combat scene where Our Hero dodges everything ... Non-minor spoilers below The dude gets shot and dies?! Sure he was able to find and protect the girl, but its a movie, there's a certain expectation that she (or at least the kid) was gonna make it through. I kind of liked the way that the fighting briefly stopped when everyone realised that they had the only baby on the planet with them, but I thought it was a bit lame that they got away after that. Once they were surrounded by army dudes I had expected that they would be off to the Gvernment and that the story would continue from there - it was bulls*** that they just drifted away without being snapped up and taken away. Also, I was 100% sure that he was gonna find the baby crying and her with a bullet in the grey matter. Oh well, like I said it might be better left to a DVD release but after paying to watch tripe like Aeon Flux and X3 lately it was a pleasant surprise for me! last edited by Hogfather at 15:07:34 22/Oct/06 |

Its sci fi without aliens, robots or lasers Sounds like a bucket of s*** without the bucket Seriously, if the reason why the chicks can't get pregnant isn't in anyway plausible then I f***en hate this movie. |
