Whats the difference between these 2 cards and why is the 7600 still being offered in most retailers and the 7800 is no longer available?? My m8 wants to sell me a 7800GT Albatron PCI-E video card for $200.

yeah the price is fine, just wandering why an older card is still being sold instead of a newer card :/

Because the 7800 was replaced by the 7900, and the 7600 is a current model which is aimed at the budget gamer market.

7600's came out quite some time after the 7800's. The 7900's replaced the 7800's as the top of the line model while the 7600's were introduced as a midrange. $200 for a 7800gt is a sweet deal, just make sure it's not a GS.

7800 was replaced by the 7900 series.
Price wise the 6600GT was replaced with the 7600GT. 7600GT has a newer chipset and double the memory. GS is usually in reference to the memory speed. You will find that a GS version of a card has been detuned and therefore cheaper. last edited by Fik at 12:13:33 20/Oct/06 |

Yeah FiK's right, it's mainly just clock speeds and part quality that differs on the GS. According to wiki though the GS was just an AGP variant with less pipes, I thought the GS was on PCI express too for some reason, my bad.

There is GS versions of PCIE cards. I sell them at work.
For example there are 7300gs, 7600gs and 7900gs. |

So the product line goes something like this?
Top end: 6800 -> 6900 -> 7800 -> 7900 -> 8800 Budget: 6600 -> 7600 -> 8600(?) EDIT: Never mind, wikipedia clarifies things last edited by Lynx at 14:10:52 20/Oct/06 |

As half a dozen people have already pointed out, the 7800 was made redundant by the 7900. Some places still have 7800 stock, which draws far more power than the 7900, yet still runs slightly slower.

6 is lower than 8 so its crap there, s is before t and also stands for s***. So the 7800 is better.
