That looks like crap in my opinionwhat... because its not in black and white like sin city? The comic 300 was in color and had very similar art styles to elements they are using in the film... maybe take a look at it. |

Man that looks f***ING AWESOME. One of the most awesome stories from ancient history (read more). I hope they don't Troy it up; that could have been so much better.
Is there a better non-YouTube trailer out? I want to watch it again. PS, Frank Miller FTW |

i'm a sucker for those big epic battle movies, i even liked troy and kingdom of heaven.
looking forward to this now, but i reckon it should have been called 300 spartans or something instead of just an ambiguous "300". |

the cool kids give things half names. in today's society, there would be a character Darth in the movie Star
also, as cool as this movie might be, i'm still opposed to remaking old concepts because they can't come up with anything new |

also there is already a 1962 movie called '300 spartans' & the frank miller graphic novel was called '300' ;D i still have a childhood memory of the 1962 movie which i loved for it's epic battle scenes. i'm sure it'd be showing its age now though so i'm not gonna watch it :P
i hope all of frank millers works get done as movies. orrjeh. |

If the movie hits the dialogue spot on like the comics and the actors don't ham it up too much it should be awesome. I'm not so sure about the director, but from the trailer it looks like the style is at least there.
At any rate, the books were enjoyable and well recommended. Not overly long, but more than enough to make a solid movie out of. Leonidas is badass. |

Notice how it had a lot of people running at each other and fighting with melee weapons? Geddit now? Notice how after Braveheart succeeded in the box office, we saw lots of those kinds of movies (i.e. lots of soldiers fighting)
I already posted this list a few years ago: Joan of Arc - Braveheart goes to France The Last Samurai - Braveheart goes to Japan Troy - Braveheart goes to Turkey Lord of the Rings - Braveheart goes to Middle Earth (and walks a lot) Arthur - Braveheart goes to England (but not like he did last time) The Patriot - Braveheart shaved and went to America Geddit? That aside, 300 actually looks pretty sweet since it looks like there's some pretty good acting in it. |

So, anything that involves massed melee combatants is basically braveheart? Do you realise that there was, very successful movies, that had massed melee combat before braveheart? Can you name one that was made within 10 years prior and had equally impressive fight scenes and realism? My initial concept was just a simple, light hearted joke. I just took the joke one step further so qmass knew what I meant. Also lol@TK saying somebody has no clue... How about you back that up there champ? No news.com plz. |

My initial concept was just a simple, light hearted joke. I just took the joke one step further so qmass knew what I meant. I got it. I mean, watching the patriot was a giant case of déjà vu. It’s just that your analogy was so broad that you could use it against almost any movie that happened to have a lot of people, specially anything that had a lot of people with swords. To answer you question, Henry V and Excalibur where up there if not in scale of numbers but in scale of atmosphere. Although, Excalibur is a little out of your 10 year range. I'm sure there is one or two more that I'm forgetting, probably a vietnam/world war II. That’s kind of a loaded question. Between the rising costs of extras during the 70’s and 80’s it was very hard to generate the same mass of people that Braveheart had and the massive focus on science fiction and run of the mill action movies, it was a very slim time for hollywood epics. . Braveheart had unprecedented level of community and re-enactor support that came very cheaply to the production team. While I’d agree that Braveheart gave a modern example that people still loved epics, I’m not so sure it was the major selling point. Hollywood epics have always been popular, and probably always will be; they are big, grandiose and often breathtaking. If I had to bet on anything, it was technology that bought back epics, not braveheart. Maybe it’s just my hate for braveheart. It’s such a s***ty movie on so many levels. The best bit of the movie is the killing spree after they kill his bitch and when he dies at the end. Although I did laugh when Edward pushed his sons homosexual lover out the window. |

Yeah the historical innaccuracy of Braveheart left me cringing more than anything. By historical innacuracy, I mean teh complete molestation and butchery of the William Wallace story. Appart from that I enjoyed watching Scotsmen killing English scum. /spit

I thought Braveheart was awesome :( It would have been better if it wasn’t so, dramatically, wrong for no valid reason. I can understand why they changed some bits here and there, I mean it’s a film; it’s a film designed for the LCD. However, they made sweeping changes for no real reason. Here’s one example. The battle of Stirling is actually referred to as “the battle of Stirling bridge” didn’t have a bridge and didn’t involve two armies standing in front of each other. The battle of Stirling bridge was an ambush that devastated the English forces; a bloody one at that. If they recreated the essence of the battle of Stirling bridge it probably, at least in my opinion, would have been f***ing awesome … and right. I mean, f***, they skinned one of the English Knights and used it for sporrans and belts. |

typo beat me with Excalibur for starters, Robin Hood for another (although on a slightly minor scale), Army of Darkness (ok might not be exactly what you mean, but it does have the mass melee combat which you were refering too). That aside I wasn't having a dig at you CT, I guess I just didn't get your joke.
Edit- Just thought of Captain Horatio Hornblower, Captian Blood (I like epic pirate movies), and I could be stoned for saying this one...Montey Python and the Holy Grail? Edit 2- Ran (Akira Kurosawa) last edited by Tanaka Khan at 13:43:58 19/Oct/06 |
