Topic: WTF is with firefox, help? + rant

I swear to god I feel like throwing my monitor out the f***ing goddamn f*** of a window right now.
Umpteenth hour of doing an assignment and Firefox is being the biggest f*****ry piece of s*** frustrating thing I have seen yet.

Ctrl-C for copy is not working, nor is Ctrl-V..
When I right click with something highlighted the "cut/copy" etc. commands aren't there, instead it has "back/previous etc." [For links, not for plagiarism der]

Only this seems to be completely intermittent and completely W@#@#%*ing random, re-opening firefox it sometimes does it and sometimes doesn't.

I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the ' or / type deal where it opens the find box.
But I can't figure this one out and it's driving me insane (or maybe it's the 20,000 + words of assignment I've written that's driving me to the point of zero tolerance to any trivial bulls*** from a computer)

Have a nice day :)

Thanks.

- Loki

[edit] My god, highlighting something and right clicking had 'copy' command here in this window.. I jsut went back to previous one that wouldn't let me do it and bam, it's fine...
This makes zero sense which is driving me nuts, anybody have any clues? thanks.
I would reset but I have a load of large PDF files of Journal Articles + database searches going on across multiple windows that I really cbf finding it all again.

I wouldn't be surprised whoop.
This assignment is driving me nuts.
Of course, ever since I posted this thread it hasn't screwed up yet.
If it does again I'll screenshot it.

Oh yeah, and the ctrl-c 100 times thing I know it does that sometimes, but I'm talking even after a zillion ctrl-c's it wouldn't work (nor would highlight and right clicking since the option to copy wasnt evne there :).

weird, never seen that unless I've been using Remote Desktop. Have you got a process called rdpclip.exe running?

Ctrl-C for copy is not working, nor is Ctrl-V..

I don't understand most of your post but I find most copy&paste problems happen when you're running clipboard sharing/modifying programs in the background (as trog hinted with RDP).

I ran Synergy for a while to control two of my PCs with one kb/mouse over the network and after a while the clipboard would stop working until I restarted the Synergy server/client.

So close ALL your background/system-tray programs one-by-one until it works. If that doesn't, then that's not your problem.

If I misunderstood the post, then please repost with more sense-making. Thanks.

Trog: Nope... unless it were running silently that task manager can't see.

Uhmmmm, parabol it would probably make sense if the problem made sense :)

Although your idea sounds logical, it hasn't done it for awhile now which is odd (I havne't reset or changed anything so I dunno).

Word 2003 (3 different documents) about 6 rather largish PDF files + endnote + 6 or so instances of firefox - few tabs in each and foobar!

Spose the clipboard sharing thing makes sense... But what doesn't make sense is that it was only firefox doing it, and more importantly it changed my 'right click' menu to the default (i.e. right click with something highlighted = same as right clicking with nothing highlights... The options didnt change to copy/cut/paste/delete etc.)...

Is there a way to fix that clipboard thing?

Yeah i've had the same problem with right click copy paste and even sometimes ctrl c ctrl v start being a bunch of stiffs. Then there's the random crashes.

I'm going to bash one end of my keyboard to set an example for the rest of em.

endnote D:

Like trog said, RDP. Microsoft fails at making a clipboard. Just reboot and it'll start working again. Although sometimes if you go into word/outlook/whatever and clear the clipboard (even though there is nothing in it) it'll come good.

With the remote desktop trog, you cant copy from the remote desktop window into your computer, or the other way around. You have to copy it into the remote desktop talking function, then out of the window. Its a bit spaz =\

the issue when RD is in use never manifests itself in anything but firefox for me. ie is fine, as are all other apps

I haven't seen that one for a while now tho, not since several versions of firefox ago
