I just rescued an injured bird, must of been attacked by a cat or something..

It doesn't seem to be able to fly and it's neck looks a little mauled, but not bleeding.

I've put it in a big cardboard box for now to keep it safe.

Any ideas what I should do? Will he come good? His legs and stuff are working but he doesn't seem to be able to stand up :( He's quite alive though. Just hoping his neck isn't broken?

take it to a vet or something, if you dont wanna pay anything, just dump it at the front door.

Attacked by a cat? Big chance not going to survive.. It will die of shock, or the bacteria in the cats claws/mouth will kill it.

Also, cool prompty quote/image/url things, good idea :-)

Shock probably, leave it and see if it comes good, which it probably wont.

if you want to do something yourself, cut awayt the surrounding feathers and get some betadine on the wound. keep in a quiet room in a cage with water and seed and it will recuperate (my mum is a softy for wounded animals as well).

if you don't want to do anything yourself as above^^

*BLINK*

Embedding background images in a style sheet in a post is not cool, at least this one isn't a white background.

Put the cat on your guild's KoS list.

On a serious note, your best option is to ring a vet or the RSPCA and they'll direct you to a volunteer who'll take the bird off your hands and try to nurse it back to health (assuming it's a native bird. If it's an indian myna, f***ing kill it). Giving it a night to recover would also be a good idea.

Crap, I just tried to put some padding into his box right, and went to pick him up again and he must of recovered from shock and gripped my finger with his foot and drew blood.

Do birds have bad diseases?

Yeah it looks pretty f***ed so.... I wouldn't bother doing much with it. Break its neck put it out of its misery.

Ring the RSPCA or a Vet or something man, god knows why you'd post on QGL.

We used to call em "Leatherheads" (blue eye patches are males I think)
There would be heaps of brown patched eye patch ones that always seem to jump in the road whenever we targeted the one with the blue eyes (using broom stick as a rifle when we were kids).

I've seen em swarm an attack any predator (be it a dog or a cat) that came anywhere near em.
Just break it's neck an move on

Apparently there's a nasty flue going around.

Injured Bird - What do I do?

I'm thinking a nice hearty soup....or perhaps a stir fry?

Just keep it warm and fed/watered. If it dies it dies, otherwise at least you made an effort.

I had a possum on my doorstep that looked as though it was attacked. I used common sense and went to a vet because posting on the internet wasn't going to do s***.

Leave it on someone elses doorstep, worked well once for me when I found an injured possum.

On a serious note, you dont pay for native birds you take in to the vet.

I don't think you pay for native animals in general. Mr. possums visit was free as well.

yeah, take it to the damn vet ... they don't charge for native animals, and most are compassionate enough to treat animals that aren't yours for free ( or cheap ).

You can take any injured animals to your local vet and they will take said animal off your hands without charging you.
