Firstly, apologies for being a noob, but I have never used photoshop and need to know how to change the colour of things.
IE : I have a picture of my ute, and seeing as I am painting it soon, I want to experiment with different colour schemes. What's the easiest way to change the colour of it, so that it looks like it's actually painted that colour and not coloured in with a friggin' crayon? I have the latest Paintshop 9.0 CS2. Any help would be great, Cheers |

You need to lasso the thing, feather it, then adjust your colours. You can try colour replace but it doesnt work too good.

I only know how to use photoshop 7 but the way I do it is probably slow and annoying but I do everything the hard way :(
0: enter CYMK colour mode 1: select the area to be coloured using that lassoo thing mooby mentioned (press the "L" key on the keyboard) 2: enter quick mask mode (press "Q") and touch up the areas to be coloured/stay the original colour 3: add a new curves adjustment layer and go to town adjusting each colour individually. 'tis how I changed the colour of http://home.iprimus.com.au/whoop/originalsprint.jpg to http://home.iprimus.com.au/whoop/utesprinter_.jpg last edited by whoop at 20:21:06 25/Sep/06 |

Whoop beat me
Ok I got a small walkthrough; this will give you rough results. Excuse the links till I get them right. First load the image and select the lasso from the toolbar on the left of the screen. 2nd from the top, below the circle. Press and hold it for more lasso options. The polygon and magnetic lasso make the job easier and cleaner but are harder to master. http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7936/recolour01hg3.jpg The toolbar at the top houses the lasso options. Reduce feather to 0, AA is optional. Drag the lasso around the outline of the car bypassing tires and hubcaps. Release to complete the selection shape. http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4352/recolour02sh9.jpg Hold down Alt to make negative selections. Remove the windows and various extras, within the selection, that need to remain the same colour. When you are happy with the selection, click on the “select” menu at the top of the screen, and click on Feather. Feather the selection by 1-3 pixels, depending on the size of the image. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5651/recolour03yb1.jpg The next step can be done in many ways, easiest is to click the image menu at the top of the screen next to edit, then adjustments then Hue/Saturation. Scrolling the hue will rotate the selections colour wheel. If the final colour is too rich, play with the saturation and lightness to get and more realistic look. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3618/recolour04wu2.jpg Ctrl – D to deselect the image and you’re done. http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7154/recolour05vn0.jpg last edited by Lynx at 20:34:57 25/Sep/06 last edited by Lynx at 20:36:50 25/Sep/06 |
