From the Google blog comes word of a new version of Picasa. The big news (for me at least) is this:
Folders finally work as you'd expect, so people who've kept their photos meticulously organized in folders and subfolders can see them displayed the same way in Picasa.
HOORAY!@#!#@!#@!#!@#!@

Some other cool s***:
And we've added a shiny new feature to photo-editing: Save. Your Picasa edits can now be preserved when using other programs. The save feature is even undoable, so you never lose your original files.

And there's more -- you can import into any folder you like, make time-lapse sequences into movies, search by color, create a screensaver with beautiful visual effects, and even re-arrange Picasa's buttons. Oh, and we also made Picasa work with Google Earth, so you can put information about where you went on vacation into the photos themselves, and then, view your shots on a 3-D globe.
full change list.

Also, it's free.

yeh man, ordering of photos was the single dumbest thing google has ever done. Can't believe it's taken this long to change it. But now I cbf to go back and name all my photos from so long ago cause I'm over them all!

I hate with picasa that f***ing slow as hell scroll they have. Why can't it just scroll the same way windows folders do ffs. Upgrading in hopes the new version now scrolls faster http://users.bigpond.net.au/ritsuko/emoticons/argh.gif

Yeh I was a bit like that - what does everyone else do, just dump all their photos into one directory and wait for picasa to come along?

I've only used simple features of picasa like 'email picture' which was quite handy, simply because i found it frustrating to add in my photo folders, it wanted to scan my hole box, and i found it difficult to exclude pictures i didn't want included.

Also, it didn't seem to support reading/storing data in descript.ion. I'll give this new version a shot though.
