A new Steam update hints that the recent radar changes might not be all that Counter-Strike: Source gamers are going to see: The changes coming to the Counter-Strike: Source weapon and equipment economy are still underway, but we're not quite ready to announce exactly what we have planned. The scope of the change involves changing the prices of every item in the game—some more significantly than others. But that's just the beginning. We'll have more info on what's in store, soon. |

Anyone remember the early days where you actually had to save up for a gun?
So it was like "omg j0r! he's got an awpzer!", then proceed to piss bolt at the start of the next round to pick it up (because you were 1337 enough to kill him/her/probably him). p.s. let the record show I don't play cs now. |

lets hope they don't add a riot shield and if they do don't make it as bloody stupid as the one in 1.6. I mean, the ability to stop every gun in the game but you're able to stab people through it? WHAT THE f***

Every now and then when another release comes out and I'm super bored I might check it out.
One thing I still don't understand is why they haven't added in sway for the scoped rifles... imo that would make the game so much better. |

Suck the fun out? Personally I found with a only a little practice its incredibly easy to use the rifles. Woooo lets sit in the corner and pop anyone who walks out from that doorway... does noone enjoy a challenge anymore? I guess thats a reason I stopped playing, but hey whatever floats your boat and by all means if you like it then keep playing the game! I'm simply sharing my perspective from seeing it evolve from when I started way back in beta 3 of the original HL1 mod.
I swear the original CS was marketed as a realism based mod though... Wiki seems to back up my memory - Counter-Strike was originally conceived as a realistic shooter, and was novel in that respect. However, recently it has been criticized for its lack of realism in comparison to other games. |

Hahahaha CS was fun as hell back in the 'gun running' days.
Whoever was left at the end would run around like mad spamming 'drop weapon' to carry all the guns over to their team's spawn area. Now that was fun s***! CS becae the biggest pile of s*** around beta 5-6, guns became spam spray-and-pray and required no skill pretty much. The old AK used to have you bending over backwards if you fired more than 3 shots in a row, the recoil was killer but it did insane damage. |

I beleive he means that back in the good ol days if you held down the trigger with the AK to spam away like you can now you would litereally be pointing at the roof after a few rounds. You HAD to use controlled bursts or you got no where. Generally that is considered a tad more difficult that jumping around the corner and letting rip :) This is all prior to beta 6 when they tightened the spread and lightened the recoil as far as memory serves. I'm not seeing the contradiction but anyhoo...
Most of the auto AP rifles were like that, the m4 has probably been changed the most, its insanely accurate with sfa recoil nowdays... It also had a scope back then ahhh the memories. The hard recoil is where the SMGs really dominated - when the less skilled people did spam you'd take them down no problems. Nowdays the SMG class seem pretty useless once eveyone is using AP weaps, when you start to hit them usually they'll panic and will still manage to kill you with random spray. It will be interesting to see what they do with the weap cost revisions etc in the upcoming patch and if it will actually make a diff. |

Actually the beta after smoke grenades were introduced was when they changed the recoil and spread pattern to random. That was when CS turned crap
Prior to that the recoil might of been exteme so as rubba says you had to burst fire but I never did. I held the trigger down and adjusted aim to compensate for the recoil. Because it wasn't random, I have shown to people how it's possible to say which bullet in the clip will hit head. As an example on militia I rushed the front as terrorist with AK and told my friend I would headshot the first target I saw with the 5th bullet from my clip. I shot, drew a horizontal line with the first four bullets then connected with the 5th and dropped him. This is why it used to be possible to take out entire teams of even good players. The game then turned into luck, a game based on whoever is the quickest to get the first shot off then teams to spam a target. Individual skill got minimised in the game in an effort to bring more of a team element to it. That's my thoughts anyway - and brett, that you are was like perfect timing ;p |

Also remember that the Old CS was very broken, bullet puffs and whatnot didnt match the server.
The best example of this was when you fire a DEagle at a window, saw the big bullet puff on the wall next to the window, and have the window shatter. The server had the bullet hit the window, the client had it hit the wall. I'm willing to bet many a Cheat accusation was caused by this discrepency. I've found that in CS now, if your first shot dosnt get head, then it turns into luck, unless you give time for the weapon to reset. Using the AK, you would fire once, let it sit for a bit under a second and fire again for another perfectly accruate shot, anything faster is luck-based spam. Do that for a few rounds and you get accused of cheating because you get heaps of headshots, without spamming. |

O, but at least the Auto Sniper weapons are fixed now.
In 1.6 the buggers were so broken, it was almost pure luck to use em. Kind of why no-one did. Now they are acurate and good, like they should have been. Now if you use them you get called an Auto-noob. I find they are good against awps. So if a server is using mostly awps, you whip out the auto-sniper, clean up, then get called a noob. CS is really stupid for that sort of reason. If you do anything that cleans up, you get called a 'something'-noob. Instead of people saying 'wow, great shot dude, your really good. It seems people just want to bash you back down to their level :( |

I held the trigger down and adjusted aim to compensate for the recoil. Because it wasn't random I do remember someone telling me this, probably tried it too. Was so long ago I can't really remember for sure. |

yeah the AK formed a "7" pattern starting at the bottom and arcing up. The direction of this '7' be it as it looks there or reversed depending on your preference for which hand you configured your weapon to be held in.
Once it formed the "7" and got to the top - it crossed back over. So if you had an entire clip basically it formed a "T" pattern. Once the recoil was compensated for it was loosely a straight line that could be drawn. It was when they changed it to random that the game turned crap for me - I played on because I had a group of friends that enjoyed it and I wanted to see things stay together. Eventually I came to realise that it was pointless and because I hated it so much really all i was doing was letting the team down anyway =p I could never get used to the guns when they were changed, it frustrated me too much to learn it over if one even can when it's random =p Heya toll ;p |

I heard the s*** killed more than the thread. hurrr
Lately I haven't been able to hit a damn thing. Whether I've just gotten crap at cs or whether valve has yet again messed with the weapons I don't know. I figure it's the former. Anyway, I can be sitting dead still crosshair dead on some guy or a bottle or something else that also isn't moving & fire single shots at it and still not hit it. What the f*** is up with that? Usually only happens on certain servers though. |

Thanks for clarifying rubba :]
CS was pretty broken back in the old days, haha I remember in that open desert map (Can't remember the blooody name) you use to be able to get the barrel to take you into the sky and on the roof of the map, that was hilarious. Ahhh my favourite was either Facility (Hardcore camping stand-off match, but aside from that I liked the map) and the aaaancient old one whereby CT's started in some weird vault-looking room and infiltrated a nuclear power-plant looking scene. The towers/clock tower one was pretty cool too. But yeah, more or less, the old CS used to be more about who got to shoot at who first, so people were a litle more tactical in their movement - which I don't see the problem with, in real life I imagine the first person to shoot is generally going to win. Campers were annoying, but you learnt to deal with them by checking corners etc. proprely, kinda like I dunno, a real team/person might move. But anyway, it's no longer a realism mod as it was intended to be and relies too much on luck imo. Seriously, I've jumped on Rubba or eK's comp in the past afte rnot having played in years, picked up a rifle and cleaned up some of the maps and walked away with some stupid XX/0 score and I wasn't playing/aiming for s***, I don't like that... Each to their own, clearly lots of people do like it this way (or they wouldn't be playing), I aint complaining about it. last edited by Loki at 01:27:08 16/Sep/06 |

This is before dusts time, I can't think of the name either.. cs_seige maybe?
If it is the one I am thinking of the CT's started at some APC then u could either go across a bridge or down into a ravine type thing and up a lift into a guardhouse thing that peeps sniped out then you could go into the sewers then into a parking garage where the T's spawned... http://www.ggf-gaming.de/gfx/cs_maps/cs_siege_v16.jpg lol I actually managed to find a pic! Got some memories of that map :P Other more likely possibilites de_nuke or de_prodigy cause now I can't remember seige having much to do with nukes :) last edited by rubba-chikin at 23:49:38 18/Sep/06 |

I remember wtfing to my mate over how some dude could bunnyhop around rapez0ring with a 'big shiny pistol' (deagle) when I like had an 'awesome rifle' I had saved up for after dieing 17 times. I swear the HE gren had tons more power then as well. think that was beta 1.3ish era when OGC ruled all. autospinny mp5 headshots++ ftw. |

nostalgia
1. a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time: a nostalgia for his college days. how can anyone have nostalgia for cs? |
