A big week this week in DRM news with reports that the DRM for both Windows Media 10 and 11 and iTunes 6 has been cracked (though the iTunes one is arguably less of a crack than a neat technical hack), allowing users to strip the DRM from songs that they own (or don't own). The battle continues!

I'm sure there's a paradise somewhere inside someone's head who is now locked away in a rubber room

Microsoft have patched the "problem" in their DRM and have made the "fix" available in this months patches. So, be careful what you let windows update install.

Mere days after Microsoft started pushing a new IBX version for "protecting" PlaysForSure files from its users, the FairUse4WM guys have thrown down a new version that deals with that and other little DRM-circumvention obstacles. The new release -- version 1.2 -- knocks out DRMv1 files you've ripped yourself with protection, breaks down individualized WM9 files and has a workaround for WM11beta2. ...

But as we reported yesterday, a flaw in the Microsoft digital rights management (DRM) software which is supposed to protect movies from being copied has once again been cracked.

BSkyB spokesman Phil Evans told The Register: "We know as much about it as you do right now." He also confirmed that there is no indication as to when Microsoft will provide an update to the software.
