Anyone else upgraded to Messenger Live and able to use GAIM to login? Ever since I changed to live I can't use GAIM any more for my MSN needs :(

actually just noticed I'm not running the latest beta which apparently fixes some msn problems

edit: nope, still no love :(

Any other recommendations for minimalist open source msn clients?

www.miranda-im.com

I tried all the others and always end up going back, I like the no double spacing between usernames etc.

Just install the plug-ins you need and away you go.

trog,

i know several people experiencing msn problems at the moment, and they've all used MSN Live at some stage, so maybe it's an MSN thing rather than a Your PC thing.

edit: i should add, i used Live Beta when it first came out for about 3 minutes, then reverted to gain, which i've used for several months since then without issue until the problems started a few days ago and now i can't use gaim.

Oh I see... thats why my GAIM decided to not work anymore.

I loaded up trillian basic instead, might go grab the latest GAIM beta and try again.

Not using MSN is all about e-peen and wank factor right?
Cause I can't fathom any other reason apart from adds and "nudges/winks" which can all be disabled.

It's performance hit issues are non existant and only exist in your head.

Loki,

No it's about reducing the number of pieces of software i have to run. Gaim lets me do MSN (for work-wankers that won't change), google chat, yahoo and something else.

All through the same wank-free interface, without having to install any special hacks or addons, to make it just like it should be, no "nudges", no ability for 3rd parties to change the nick i give them, no logs kept and many other things that i can't remember that are on by default for MSN and other clients frill-packed bloated clients aimed at the teenage girl/homosexual pretty boy market.

I installed Miranda and like it so far. Nice minimalist default interface which I dig. It uses around 1/5th the RAM of MSN which is exactly what I wanted it for.

Gaim supports MSN by default and here's the instructions for setting up googletalk: http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24073

Miranda also supports the Jabber protocol so I assume you can get it working with Google Talk as well.

Yeah that's why I use GAIM, so I can get rid of running a client each for ICQ, Google Talk and MSN, and just use one client. It does a heap of others like yahoo and s*** but I don't use yahoo so meh

Hmm, for some reason I don't get sounds in Miranda, even though they're all switched on. My windows profile is set to not use sounds, but I wouldn't have thought that'd override an application settings?
