Steal This Film is an Internet documentary examining file sharing. From the official site:
There have been a few documentaries by 'old media' crews who don't understand the net and see peer-to-peer organisation as a threat to their livelihoods. They have no reason to represent the filesharing movement positively, and no capacity to represent it lucidly.

We wanted to make a film that would explore this huge popular movement in a way that excited us, engaged us, and most importantly, focussed on what we know to be the positive and optimistic vision many filesharers and artists (they are often one) have for the future of creativity.
Very interesting look at the current state of affairs and it's very interesting to see the PirateBay guys really bringing it to the MPAA. You can nab a smaller Quicktime version or a full DVD ISO from the site above.

Surprised how much clout the movie industry has with the American Govt. Managed to get the government to even threaten sanctions against Sweden if they didn't try and do something about tpb.

Fortunately torrent users are also voters and the Swedish govt (for now at least) realizes this.

The movie industry, like the music industry will bitch and moan, but the figures are there to prove that they are making more money than ever! The only people who suffer are people like me, with a s***ty internet connection.

I still say supertorrents ftw!

I never download movies, I find the quality to be inferior to a dvd.

TV shows are a different story though :D

Swedish pirate propaganda. The whole attitude I took from that doco is we've got the power, there's nothing you can do, we're going to do it anyway so you had better find other ways to generate revenue. Piracy is theft! *ahem*

The whole 'this is just like home-taping' of 25 years ago is bollocks also - I think the scale, flexibility and scope of bittorrent is so out of perspective of 'home-taping' that it's like comparing peanuts to elephants. What impressed me was that when the US made veiled threats to impose a trade embargo the swedes seemed genuinely offended and suprised!

Yeh, the whole thing is basically a taunt to the MPAAs that these guys are still in operation. They're essentially saying "you thought we were pirating your s*** before? Just wait until you see us now!"
