hmm its wierd you see i pause the movie, then screen cap and paste but the image kind of like stays where ever the player is is on the desktop and if i close the player all i get is a black square instead. sorry hard to explain

yep i tried thru VLC, I went video -> snapshot but no files were appearing in the directory i set them up to save to =(

Use Fraps, then you can cap stills and video how you like.

I use windows media player classic.
1: open dvd
2: pause
3: file -> save image
4: ???
5: profit

it's something to do with overlays being teh gay

just use mpc look here's one I just took

unless you're trying to capture moving pictures then use VLC and stream the output to an mpeg file, open it up in virtualdub, select the part you want & save as avi or whatever, or you could also stream it to mpeg, open in vdub, select part of it and save each frame and get your screen cap that way but I prefer just using MPC for screencaps.
