Topic: Tips for widescreen LCDs?

I bought myself one of these last weekend for a bday treat

What are some tips for getting the best performance out of these things. Someone like Whoop might be able to help me here

Whats the best resolution, refresh rate etc to run something like this at, is the highest necessarily the best?

Also is there any way to force games to run at a widescreen aspect ratio, CS has it in the video options but some games like battlefield2 I cant change it on, however it still looks sweet :)

For all the details on running a particular game in widescreen check widescreengaming.net

I run my 24" WS in its native res of 1920x1200, though yours says "1366 x 768 (WXGA)" so i don't know.

Have a look at using the ClearType font smoothing under display properties. Some like it, some dont, but it can make text nicer to read.

Edit: wow, for something that big, that resolution sure is s***. Buy a computer monitor next time, not one for TV

me? what?

All I can say is run it at it's native res because anything else looks crap. As for clear type, I personally leave it off but if you do decide to use it, check out the Windows xp power toyes page and grab the clear type tuner. There's also a few other cool things on there but that's a story for another thread.

i hate to agree, but it doesn't look like it's a computer monitor as such

It's meant for a windows media center methinks. Hook it to the PC, it has decent enough res to actually be able to read the text unlike a normal TV, but not really that high of a res compared to a computer screen. However for what it's designed to do (view tv programs recorded on a computer) I'm thinking it probably does it well.

These are just my speculations, if I'm wrong and it really is a computer monitor then LG are more s*** than I thought and my undying hatred for them just gained more fuel to burn into the next life.

Here's a tip that anyone looking to get a widescreen must pay attention to

If your monitor is taller than it is wide, then you've got it sideways...

it aint just for gaming, but at the mo ive got my pc hooked up for it for fun.

its part of my killer setup for the lounge, but yeah I will be playing games on it, not day to day windows usage though.

if you had one of these you wouldnt be using your 19" for gaming

ctd: I have a dvico HDTV tuner card. It comes with a remote and with the software you can configure different profiles to control anything. I can use it to control winamp, media portal, the oem software it comes with, powerdvd, anything.

this is what the remote looks like.

I got one of those sweet 24" dells why dont you just get a digital set top box or hdd recorder and plug it into monitor and use the picture in picture function then when you die in cs all you goto do is hit a button on font of monitor then you got pip or pbp

you could use a dvd player or old video player to try it out

its cool having one of these but having a widescreen gaming monitor is a must so you dont have to fight over it when the bitch wants to watch tv

well i decided to get a dvico pci thingo.

Demoninator, I was thinking about that but its only a bedroom and I dont wanna have bulls*** everywhere so a pci device suits. Going for the all-in-one shizzle, plus it comes with an MCE remote and it looks like you can program it to wipe your arse plus other things.

Here's a tip Bj I found out today, there is no such thing as a dead pixel warrinty on large screen LCD's. Aparently the companies believe that you sit so far back from the large screens that if the monitor did have dead pixels, your eyes would never be able to make them out. LG is one company I know for certain who does this (or doesn't).

Are you sure about that?

Not a perfect dead pixel warranty, but one nonetheless :)

I setup the dvico HDTV dual tuner, and everything seems to be running smootly, except PiP (picture in picture).
Ive checked around a few forums and cant seem to find any threads on it, but PiP just doesnt seem to wanna work using the fusion software that comes with the card. Anyone here have any tips?

Im fairly sure all the drivers are installed properly etc.
