Just thought I'd give everybody the heads up. PlusCorp are selling AMD stuff at the new prices, with shipping starting monday apparently. I'm sure we'll see it starting to come through in other stores soon, but the prices are awesome ($499 for a AM2 X2 5000+). Thank you Intel for competition!!

Disclaimer: I do not work for PlusCorp, I was ordering a new computer last night and looking around for prices and came across this. If it's against the rules feel free to delete.

I was ordering a new computer last night and looking around for prices and came across this.

Well by looking at the parts that I've been searching for lately, I would hope you didn't buy from them as they seem to be more expensive than local stores here.

About time I must say.... Glad it's happening though. :)

Maybe I will upgrade this year then.... it suddenly became far more fesiable.

So whats the deal with the current AMD chips (I have read all about the things, but hearing some real world experience from locals is always nice). Obviously FX is the s*** (but I'm not paying those prices). But I'm looking for best bang for buck type chip.

My guess is somewhere around the AMD X2 4000-5000+ chips in AM2 socket? Opinions?

I haven't upgraded in 2 years =\ old AMD 3200XP 1gig DDR400 9800pro is getting long in the tooth (it will become my dev machine to replace the 1.7ghz -_- ).

Anybody else jumping in?

Cool stuff - I was going to ask whether or not AMDs would come down given the new Intel CPUs on the horizon.

Now, the question is, is it worth waiting for the Intels to see if the price drops even further? or should I just cop it sweet and get an AMD now.

Yeah, and then they always have a teary on OCAU when you point out how expensive their prices are, even though they claim to be the cheapest and/or to beat any price when they won't match it.

Would never deal with this company.

Trog, if you're like me, more of a developer than a gamer (though an occasional gamer), then yeah go for a dual core for sure.

For anything single threaded though it's not going to help.

If by $599 you actually mean $499, then yes you are correct.

That's only a mere $50-70 more than the X2 3800+ was a few days ago. Awesome stuff!
