In case you're not aware of Stephen Colbert, he's a pissfunny guy who I believe started out on Jon Stewart's Daily Show. He has his own show now, the Colbert Report, which is a hilarious pisstake on Fox News.

A couple months ago, there was this thing called the White house Press Correspondents Dinner. This was explained to me (so it might not be 100% accurate) as an annual event in which the press get together with the White House senior staff - including the President - and let their hair down.

Apparently it was never recorded, but now that there's mobile phone videos and all that s***, they've given up on that and the last one was broadcast on CSPAN.

Colbert basically got up there and tore apart the Bush administration - much to the bemusement of everyone in the audience, many of whom basically didn't realise what was happening until well into it.

Check it out - it goes for around 25min so wait until you have some spare time.

axtually, he started out on Strangers with Candy, which is a totally hi-larious show, that never got the props it deserves

(much different to what stephen does now mind you, but equally if not more so funny)

it's on google video too, dated april 29 06 ... i don't think it's a mobile phone recording somehow, considering camera angle switch

i.e. They broadcast it because previous times it had been recorded using mobile phones etc

If you dislike (hate?) Bush and think the MSM generally is pretty even handed and objective in its reporting then you will probably like it.

If you don't have Bush Derangement Syndrome and are continually disapointed by the biased left leaning media you'll wonder what all the fuss was about and think it was terribly weak.

To clarify two bemused looks on people:

1. GWB - was genuinely confused as he just didnt get the subtle humour.

2. The media (ie the audience) - were confused, and by the looks on their faces quite unimpressed, as they did get the subtle humour, as for more then half the address Colbert unprecedentedly "attacked" the media for the piss poor job they were doing in questioning the administration in all its mistakes/blunders..

These were the stand out quotes to me:

“…No Fact zone… Fox news I own a copyright on that term”

“…we Americans didn’t want to know, and you had the courtesy not to find out…”

“…write that novel that you have kicking around your head, you know about that intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration… you know Fiction…”

“…I have nothing but contempt for these people [media]…”

“I have a brief statement, the press is destroying America…”

Ok so it is not so subtle but seriously the look on their (the media’s) faces is just fkn priceless!

haha yeh they are just so blown away.

I wish I could find the Daily Show for the next day, because Jon Steward made a classic comment about the size of Colbert's balls - it was awesome.

My favourite quote: "That's because you looked it up in a book - next time, look it up in your gut."

edit: hahah no wait, this one (talking about Bush):

"The greatest thing about this man about this man is he's steady. You know where he stands.

He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday - no matter what happened Tuesday. "

First 15 minutes of that were great. Crowd did not look impressed :D

I saw this video about the Prince Charles scandal the other day - Colbert is usually brilliant at keeping a straight face, but this one just got the better of him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M6VTB0_5-8&search=colbert%20charles

Also, Jon Stewart is hilarious, wish I could find more of his show.
