Alritey. What I have set up at home is 3 laptops and 3 Desktop computers set up and connected to the server. The computers are connected via an 8 port switch.
So It goes Server -> switch -> computers As we have a large music collection, we would like to have a central music library that each comptuer can access and create playlists with and which will update when a user adds more music to the folder in which all the songs are located. Something similar to itunes with its shared music but with the capability of created playlists from the shared music but will also update the library when a song is added into the default music directory. Thanks for the advice |

you can get networkable external hdd, or a shell and just jam like a 250gig hdd. store music on that plugged into switch. leave it up to the users to create the play lists.
is that what you looking for? external hdd can get exspensive which is why i recomend buying just the casing and putting your own hdd into it. |

What exactly are you looking for? hardware? software? a piece of all in one component equipment?
Lots of multimedia players (winamp, jukebox, itunes, WMP whatever) come with library features, if all you need is something that keeps track of an mp3 collection somewhere you could just run a couple of scripts with winamp or other player of choice (assuming whatever it is supports scripting or at least passthrough commands) and use it to generate playlists for you. What exactly do you want, and what will you use it for on a day to day basis? |
