Just wondering what CD and DVD media you guys use and where you buy it.
I know Taiyo Yuden is meant to be the best, and I've used it before, but now it seems a lot harder to find, anyone know where to get it? These are my recent experiences... Officeworks Techworks 52x 100sp - Pretty Shocking... TDK 100sp in a tin - Almost as bad as the Techworks ones, and I paid $49 for them! |

I know Taiyo Yuden is meant to be the best, and I've used it before, but now it seems a lot harder to find, anyone know where to get it? Order it online from JPL Displays. They are pretty cheap, and allow direct deposit (I don't have a credit-card). I used to be worried about ordering stuff online, but ended up with a good experience through these guys. The DVDs are packed very, very, well for transport. Make sure you get the cheaper TY OEM packs and not the branded Taiyo Yuden ones because they are the same thing but for the latter you unnecessarily pay more for the brand. I ended up getting a 100-pack of 8x TY OEM DVD-Rs for about $67 including postage. Burned 50 and not a single coaster. I swear by Taiyo Yuden :) Alternatively you could pick up TDKs from places like Harvey Norman. The problem with TDK is that they often just rebadge other companies' media, so you can get good and bad batches depending on which media they rebadged. last edited by parabol at 21:56:01 20/Jun/06 |

I can stand TDK gold, but there is no way I'm ever buying non-gold TDK CD-R's again.
As for DVD's I've only ever had a 50sp of Ritek from U-Mart, and they were fine... |

CD-Rs I hardly ever buy anymore and when I did I just bought whatever was on special. But if I probably tested out some CDs burnt years ago they'll probably fail. So I probably got what I paid for.
For DVD+R (haven't tried DVD-R) I always go TDK because they seem reasonably priced. Yesterday I paid $49.99 at Kmart for 50 but they are $44.95 at Dick Smith's. |

Another thumbs up for Taiyo Yuden. I know there is a distributor for them here in brisbane but they don't sell direct to the public. I have an account with them if anyone wants any. I think they come in spindles of 100.

for anyone who likes TDK media, I recommend going to the sunday computer markets for them. One of my customers goes there, and I have been going to help him out. We're selling those TDK 50pc packs at around $29.00 for non printable, and $30 for printable. Also selling my work's imported brand "ULTran" which goes on the table for $19 for a fully hub printable 8x media, which so far I've had nothing but good responses about.
As for the market locations, view sunday computer markets website and find out. I'm not at this weekend's one, but the guy who runs the tables will be, but I'll be at logan markets the weekend after. We also don't do pine rivers (for your knowledge). It now costs $3.30 to get in, so if you're looking at buying the media, factor that into your cost of it unless you go there for other things too. |

Ritek work in every drive I've tried so far.. (bar a couple that needed firmware updated) dunno about how 'quality' they are, but compatibility is a real issue for me.
I don't really care how many years a dvd lasts for anymore - more so how many different dvd players/pcs/card stereos they work in |
