Ever since it was brought back from the grave, Prey has been one of the most anticipated first-person shooters for the Xbox 360 and PC. The console demo is slated to go up on this Wednesday, June 21, on Xbox Live at 9pm PDT (midnight Thursday EDT). According to co-developer 3D Realms and publisher 2K Games, it will be a five-level demo that will show off both single-player and multiplayer modes of the game.

If you prefer to play Prey on PC, then you're also in luck. The PC demo for the game is also currently slated to have its world premiere right here on GameSpot. The demo will also go online at 9pm Wednesday PDT, and can be downloaded from a special page on GameSpot Downloads. Weighing in at around 500 MB, the PC demo also sports single- and multiplayer modes, including deathmatch, and will let players sample roughly one hour of total gameplay.

For a pre-demo dose of Prey, which is set for release July 10, check out GameSpot's previous coverage, including our recent hands-on preview of the game.

Ok so it's gamespot exclusive and won't be available here until Thursday but hopefully we'll see an ausgamers link up quick smart.

edit/ since this is a 3d realms related post, some might find this amusing.

---------------------------------

EDIT: Thanks to Dan, we now have mirrors for the PC Version on Ausgamers and Gamearena.

I played a bit of x360 multiplayer at E3 and it was pretty gimmicky and boring. I'm hoping the singleplayer is a lot more engaging and inventive. From a couple of the trailers i've seen, it does seem to be.

Probably Thursday morning for us. Assuming it's out in the morning, expect a GA/AGN mirror by 10am.

Okay, Gamespot have it set for a 9pm Pacific release (pretty strange considering that's like 2 in the morning for east coast US) Anyway, expect mirrors in another 4 hours or so.

FiringSquad have a short 'hands on' of the Prey Demo Sounds like there will be a few surprises in the demo and gameplay does sound interesting.

"I finally got a chance to play the first small portion of the single player campaign in Prey. It’s the same content that everyone else will have access to when the official demo of the game is released to the world. It’s certainly one of the more impressive demos of a game I have played in a long while."

Trying to get a GA/AGN mirror up now. Every site it's on is slow as s*** and most of their "alternate" mirrors still havent propogated yet. GG retarded "exclusive" demo releases. I have a few sources going, the fastest has an ETA of an hour and a half.

Just finished the demo and I must say I'm reasonably impressed. The game feels solid, the narrative (dialogue, the player talking to himself etc) is quite enjoyable, the atmosphere is well set up (it trumps doom3 imo), the gameplay elements like gravity flipping and portals are really snazzy and the gunplay is enjoyable at worst. The environments themselves are very, very similar to Doom 3 though and all signs point to there not being much variety in them throughout the game. The scripted events, like the on-rails sequence and the event with the kids are chillingly well executed.

Runs well on my decrepit old 2500+, 1gig ram and 9800xt too.

I thought it was good, even though many people are complaining about plastic monsters I personally think the whole crazy changing gravity concept and crazy portals outweighs the plastic effect on the models. Even so I don't think it looks that bad.

I especially liked the part where you crawl through the box portal over and over and can actually see yourself going into it on the otherside, then you turn around and try the other box and come out on a wall and slide down to the floor... so crazy!

MP wasn't too bad either I can see that providing a bit of fun at future lans, the acid gun = pwnage.

hes right though. the worst thing about it so far has been what it doesnt do different to doom3 and quake4. everything else is pretty schimck and just a little different. more little moons (or whatever htat thing was) in a box plz.

I think the Doom 3 engine makes it looking f***ing spectacular, after seeing that I expect a lot of third party devs will want to put it to good use.

Smash them with your foot, and with another hotkey have your other foot smashing them simultaneously.
