I'm planning on getting a camera soon and with it comes a need for a memory card. I've chosen between two cameras and they both use SD cards.
At the shops 1Gb SD cards go for around $75-$90. But on eBay you can get em for $40-$50 bucks. Do different brands of memory cards really make a noticable difference to the performance of the camera? IE how fast the picture saves on it. Choosing between $50 bucks cash or a 0.1 second faster save time is an easy decision for a point and shoot user like me. For example this one....$45 with delivery. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SanDisk-1GB-SD-Card-brand-new-Special-Price-S501_W0QQitemZ7628115191QQcategoryZ93930QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

I find the difference is greater when you have heaps of photos already taken. The save time increases heaps and it's f***ing annoying.

depends if your camera has continous drive mode. If you use that with moving objects at something like a car race or something then the faster save times will come in handy. If you just do single shot pictures with a few seconds/minutes in between shots like at autosalon or a bikini contest then the save times shouldn't bother you.
It also depends on the quality of your pictures I think, if you leave the size/quality down then they'll save faster but personally I leave all the stuff up on high so later if I want a large picture of whatever it was, I don't have to enlarge a s***ty 640x480 picture off my powers*** camera. |

thats not a brand name but if you want fast then get one that says sdultra. wont be much use tho if your camera wont utilise the faster speeds. |

so long as they are genuine, if you recieve a card with no serial number send it back. I've had no problems buying from ebay tho, got great deals on my 4gb Sandisk Ultra II's.

SanDisk are good, but consider this:
Almost all cards come in Black, or Blue. It costs a few cents to print a label. Just hope that it comes with full packaging etc. I'm typically inclined to not trust eBay dealers. |

Whilst we're on this topic....
Would anyone recomend either one of these? If so which one... Canon IXUS 55 2.5' LCD, 5.0MP Sony DSCW50S 'Cybershot' 2.5' LCD, 6.0MP The canon seems to have more features in it. Dont really need that extra 1MP anyway. |

I hate sony and love canon so I'd go with the canon simply on principle, however that may not be the best choice :p
http://www.dpreview.com and compare the two, check out the reviews on each. |
