A number of interesting news tidbits have emerged from Nintendo since E3 last month.
  • Nintendo has stated the price for the Wii will not exceed US$250 (AUD$333): the exact launch price will be announced in September. Nintendo plan to ship 4 million Wii's worldwide before the end of 2006.
  • The Wii's Virtual Console facility will contain newly developed games, at a cost between 500 - 1000 yen (AUD $5.85-$11.70). These new games are in addition to the lineup of classic games from the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and SEGA Mega Drive.
  • The Wii console will have functionality allowing demos to be downloaded to the DS. The demos will be delivered over the internet using the WiiConnect24 service.
  • The DS Lite, a redesign of the DS with smaller form factor and brighter screens is now available in Australia. The Australian RRP is $199.95.
  • Along with the DS Lite, the New Super Mario Bros. game for Nintendo DS (and Lite) is available nationwide. The game is classic 2D Mario - I can highly recommend it to anyone who grew up with Mario's earlier 2D adventures.

The up coming Zelda game titled: Twilight Prince was delayed for such a long period of time for many reasons. The biggest reason however was to allow the game to have Wii functionality.

does this mean all the emo kids are gonna buy the wii so that they can play retro games that they'd be too young to know of anyway?

What does reto games have anything to do with being emo? Stop trying to bash the console for no reason, or a crap reason like its name.

No, it means all the emo adults will buy the wii and go on about how gaming was so much better back in their day when they had to walk 40 miles in the snow just to pick up a copy of "invasion of the pixelly things"

Nintendo have also said that they plan on shipping the Wii at a loss initially. They plan to ship 7 million units before April 1st, 2007.

I plan on buying a Wii for no other reason than so I can play Zelda: LttP and Secret of Mana.

I frankly don't give a toss about the other games they're releasing.

Consider my monacle well and truly popped. Nintendo, at this point, really can't do anything wrong.

$333 for a next-gen console on launch day? With all of these awesome launch titles, as well as the retro gaming downloads from day one? f***ing christ this is going to be good.

I'm hoping it's $300 because I plan on buying alot at launch - there's alot of titles that really interest me. Plus I will buy 3 extra controllers, and that will be around $200 alone..stupid expensive controllers.

You do know the Wii has ports for gamecube controllers? Just buy a couple of wavebirds and your set.

The Wii ships with the Wii mote from what I remember, and I have a feeling most party games will use little of the Wii controller at first.

I wonder if they will allow people who already own the games to download them for free? Would be fantastic. Maybe impossible.
