Apologies if this is old, but there's an article in today's paper, outlining the proposed changes to the Copyright Laws. The major TV stations are putting in their submissions. The summary of changes are outlined in this scan:

errr... wtf? How would they even police this?

Maybe they are letting people become complacent about copyright laws, whilst slowly intensifying restrictions and punishments.

Then they will come in the night, and imprison everyone to install a new world order.

Maybe they'll install some 1337 virii in all the recorders, that, instead of expiring old recordings, turns them into gay porn

Because a lot of the people who create these laws are retards... I can't really think of any other reason :P

I honestly don't know how some of these spastic laws even get passed... sure the original creator might be a spazwang but it has to go through a whole bunch of people to be passed as a law! How its not picked up off the pile and thrown into the rediculous bin at the first step I do not know.

To think these people are basically in charge of the country... it makes my head hurt :/

or new VCR's will just turn on the erase head while its playing so the tape goes past the play head, then past the erase head. Once you've watched it BAM! it's erased. Previously the erase head was only turned on during recording and it's placed before the play heads (I think?)

They don't need to be policed, they just need to be used to deny new technology entry to our markets.

You are still breaking the law if you give a recording of last nights' LateLine to a workmate like the communication minister has admitted she has demanded of her staff, but i'm sure the laws won't affect politicians, just normal people trying to use the latest technology. They are pro-business laws that in the end are anti-consumer and give special treatment to a medium that shouldn't be treated any differently than the printed word.

You can't give a copy of last nights "National 9 News" to a friend who missed it, but if they didn't pick up a news paper yesderday it's not a crime to hand over yours!

it was in a newspaper for f***s sake - Of course it is transcribed probably totally incorrectly. The judicial system will interpret the changes and how they set precident is up to them, not the f***ing 'courier mail' or any other idiot journo's extrapolation.

whoever came up with those copyright restrictions is retarded and should be promptly removed from the gene pool.

It's not how it's written, it's what's actually described.

They're probably just trying to cover their own asses. Laws that are undetectable when broken or unenforcable tend to die out. One of my law student friends told me it used to be illegal to drive without shoes on in QLD, but they scrapped it since it's near impossibe to police such a thing.
