I've been looking at various ones, but they seem to top out at 300gb?

well they say they only support up to 300gb.

Is there any reason to believe if I got a larger drive it wouldn't read it?

Was lookin at City Software the other day as I was chasining some external drives for a cheap backup alt an that's the first time I've seen "Lacie"

Haven't looked into them much as yet, how long you had em runnin, (an if?) any glitches?

there are two factors you need to ensure if you're putting something larger than 300gb.

1) Is the cooling sufficient? is the unit fully aluminium? if not, does it at least have a large enough fan that's not easily likely to fail? Heat gathers rather quick in any drive larger than 200gb, so this is really a requirement for even below 300gb.

2) Drives can die really quickly if the power input isn't correct enough for them. There are some cheaper brands which only provide a maximum of 1.5amp input to the hdd. In larger capacity drives, you would be safe with 2amp power input. For smaller hard drives, this doesn't usually pose as a problem, but with the larger ones... well... can you say "warranty"?

that is all.
