I read in a forum that dual core processors are not good for games older than 3 years. Is there any truth to this?

I have Intel 2.8 Celeron dual core, with GForce 5200 graphics card. I recently bought it and found that Capitalism II, which is 5 years old keeps crashing to the desktop. I'm also running CPU grabber to slow the PC down for playing the game at its correct speed.

i can guarentee that dual core is not the problem - there are no dual core celerons. celeron d is just the name. pentium d, however, is dual core.

Well if you thought you had a Celeron dual core, maybe you have a P4 with HyperThreading... and this could be your problem.

Never owning a P4 - HT I would have to assume that its the same as my AMD X2, by being able to let you select the CPU affinity.

Start your game, then get back to your desktop, open up Windows Task Manager, select the Processes tab, right click the process for your game, and select "Set Affinity", now deselect one of the CPU's... normal you would keep CPU 0 and deselect CPU1.

I recently purchased an amd dual core 4200, so far has been running well but i must admit i havent been running that many 'older' games if i have any problems then i shall tell u guys, but ive been pretty happy.
