I seem to have a problem lately with being able to view pictures on my PC, i go into my documents or my pictures and go to open them and it comes up with an error

"Windows cannot access the specified device,path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them."

what is going on? :(
could it be because of the genuine windows validation thing ?

what eversion of windows do you have? if itd winXp pro then trun off "simple file shatring" (yes i know your not trying to share them), then right click on the folder and check the premissions, if it only says "Everyone" then ad your account, for some reasone windows doesnt always understand what "Everyone" means.

What OS you using Mav? Is it a legit copy? (From your comment I'm thinking not, but it shouldn't matter).
And what program are you using to view them? Just the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or something else like IE?

yeah check the security and permissions settings on the files, its not on removable media is it?, is it your local hard drive? it might be on the way out.
