Topic: Buying a new box... Need Help (Tight-Ar$e)

Facts:

1. Need a new PC box. Old p3 700mhz nearly dead.
2. Already have monitor, keybord, O/S etc.
3. Buying from u-mart.

I will be playing a few games on it... when I somehow find time. The help I need is what 'cheap' but reliable parts are best to be able to run games like HL2, D3, BF2 at medium specs? Also are these 'Dual Core' systems worth it?

What I was thinking was:

- Athlon 3200. Is this enough?
- 1 gig ram
- at least 100mb hardisk 7200rpm.
- Multi DVD burner etc.
- whats a good cheap mobo?
- whats a good cheap graphics card?
- Whats a good cheap case that has easy access USB/Firewire ports and is quiet?
- What power supply do I need?

I dont work in the IT industry and have s***-old pc. Therefore I need some advice. Keep it at or under $1k

generally when im looking for a nice box, i determine how skanky the chick is first, if the chick is a little skanky you want to do a fishknife, which is having a dig and smelling before you put your willy in to make sure she's fresh, however i've never had to pay for a box so i'm not sure about the quality of paying for it.

i prefer my boxes shaven although a little strip can sometimes be accepted, but any longer then the shaved look is a bit excessive and tends to grose me out a little, it's also less hygenic and causes problems.

if you need to know anything else about boxes, let me know.

I put together a gaming PC for my dad recently. It can run modern games (FEAR, Doom3, HL2) silky-smooth. Though we got our components for more at Umart (better service and stock), you could cut costs by buying at MSY:

AMD64 3200+: $185
ASUS A8N-SLI: $139
2x512MB OCZ Value: $118
Leadtek 7600GT: $282
Antec Sonata II Case+PSU: $172
Seagate 200GB SATA: $112.00
Pioneer 111D-BK: $56

Total: $1064.00

(All components purchased at MSY)

If you don't care about massive storage, I'd recommend getting a couple of 80gb seagate SATA drives and put then in RAID0. The cost is about $150, and it will perform better than a single drive. I recommend seagate because all the western digital and maxtor drives I own are as loud as Maxe and NF rolling down the stairs while locked in each other's arms making luuuurve.

I agree with parabol in every regard with this except -
save your $64 and get a cheaps*** case and psu.

I was a whitebox builder and whilst the antec's are one of the best cases around, they are expensive for what they are and a c*** to build compared to a usicase/besta/starcase etc.
