There was the whole 'Kovko debacle' and now then these two stories in today's news...
A Victorian MP has called for an independent inquiry into a coronial mix-up that resulted in the wrong body being sent to a funeral. It is the second time in nine days the Victorian coroner has been forced to apologize for his staff mishandling a person's remains. More... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=63006 Hospital officials have told the parents of a stillborn baby girl missing from a Sydney hospital that their child's body was most likely thrown away in a "tragic mistake". More... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=104645 My family has experienced much loss of both family and friends in the last few years. I can not imagine going through the grieving process AND having to deal with a situation such as the above. Comments? |

They'll turn up.
Probably down the back of the lounge. Prediction: You find the spare set of car keys, those bodies won't be far behind. |

My guess is that this has always happened but the news only thought it was worthy now because of the Kovco case. No surprises - journalism is gay.

Yeah, that annoys me too. Also, nothing worse than a forced apology...no sincerity in the apology = no point in hearing it. |

I thought American <--> Australian, spelling was now acceptable to spell it either way?
/cue Spelling Mistake thread. Papers running thin on stories to dramatise it seems. |

at least they didn't get the head of one and put it with the head body of the other...
which is what i thought 'body mixup' meant. anyway, i think its obvious their processes need review |

I guess so if you find illiteracy acceptable IIRC, most states now officially recognise that because of the influence of America in Australian society (TV, books & internet for a start) Americanised spelling is acceptable at both School and University levels. They don’t teach it, they just don’t act like elitist fags about it. Besides, languages that don’t evolve and change as society does is a dead language. Accept it. |

Man Ive screwed up at work and sent s*** to the wrong place before, it happens.
A person isnt any less dead if their body is overseas anyway. I cant say Ive had that much experience with c***s dying, but I really dont think id be too worried about a postage typo or whatever delaying me from seeing a dead friend for a couple of weeks. |

The mixup in the states was better, car crash 5 weeks ago, one girl dies the other gets her face disfigured and is in a coma. They mix up their identities and the wrong family has a funeral while the other sits by the bedside of coma girl. They didn't work it out till this week...
The family was blogging her progress too after she woke up a couple of weeks ago, crazy stuff. Link |
