Front page news over here actually.
Talked to some friends at Chalmers and Göteborg uni and they are trying to orginise some sort of protest to get the public behind these guys.
The main gripe they have is the siezing of Piratbyrån's stuff as well. Being the somewhat liberal state that sweden is, they(we) believe VERY firmly in political freedom and the feeling is they should have closed down pirate bay but left Piratbyrån running. They have a political party trying to get into parliment and with elections coming soon(the first one i can vote in actually) maybe this will push them in??

You have to remember that this is a country that has a "Red Day" (day off work) on 1st May to have huge marches down the city centre to protest for workers rights and anyuthing else that is politically expediant at the time. They firmly believe in private rights and will do something about it if they feel their rights have been infringed upon.
I am not sure whether to say "they" or "we" anymore as i have applied for swedish citizenship??

Under swedish legal laws the tracker and sites are fully legal. My guess is the servers were taken because they were suspected of using them to participate in the torrenting, rather than just supplying the torrents.

Here's a funny mpaa release, http://mpaa.org/press_releases/2006_05_31.pdf

apparently 200 servers were seized, and not just PTB but all of the owners other servers aswell...but new servers are already ordered :D

The owner also says some material was uploaded to his servers by an antipirate bureau lackey named "Rouge".

I had a look at that site and I can't find out what they have on it. Sam, what does it have most of?

Also, no one can sign up unless invited because the user limit has been reached. Oh well.

yeah you have to just keep trying. i should get some invites tho. they have everything. but the torrents dont last long. i get most tv shows 1 hour after they have been aired and at 160kb/s. most of the seeders have 100mb connections.

All I need is 24 and if anyone says that is 'stealing' they can go get f***ed because f*** having to wait 12 months to watch it and having it spoiled because Australian TV is such a joke.

I feel the dame way about Top Gear. It is the only show i BT now and though we can get it here on Viasat, it is 3 seasons behind.

I would happily pay a REASONABLE monthly fee to the company (whatever you call the f***ers who produce the shows) to be able to download an ep an hour or so after it airs overseas instead of waiting 12 months (on a lucky year) or more for it to MAYBE get picked up again by a local network.

These f***ers need to get with the global swing of things and understand that we, the consumer, no longer want timed global releases as a local distributor (eg network) has a cash shortage (or whatever reason) at the time and can't pay the royalty fee's required in order to air specific content.

I don't see anything wrong with downloading tv shows. It's like someone taping it for you :/ My only other option is to avoid talking to people or reading the internet for over a year until it's released on DVD.

Really?
I thought the Governor General enacted it about a month ago. It's part of the law where you can move mp3's you've purchased from one device to another legally

EDIT:

Ahh, my bad

And companies like foxtel publicly advertise and promote devices they sell/lease who's sole purpose is to break copyright law, and is advertised as such. The directors should do hard time.

I'm always a bit iffy about private torrents that require you to give them an email address, what kind of experience have you guys had with them?

Nothing but 150kb/sec downloads =)
Private sites require ratios of at least 1:1

And no, no spam from them or anyone else
Private sites are generally administered by people who like you, hate f***ing spam

how is everyone having a ratio of 1:1 even mathematically possible
HERMITech

^ ?

umm how bout for every 1 byte you download you must upload 1 byte? If you don't, then you get warned, s***listed if you don't fix your ratio and should you fail to do that then your account is banned.

I'm familiar with what the requirements are thanks, my question was how is it possible for everyone to have 1:1

Fair enough you upload as much as you download. But for every byte you upload (increasing your ratio), there is someone else downloading it (decreasing his)

So in a system with a constant amount of files and number of users 1:1 would only be the average ratio, so some people would necessarily be under it

The thing that makes it work I suppose is that new users and files are constantly being added, til such a time as the feds shut the bastard down

not everyone will have a ratio of one. the system depends on a certain percentage of leechers who will eventually get banned, but over time the most reliable seeders get power user and ultimately omnipotent god status.

ps anyone have invites to oink? PM me!

Super torrents is not so good.
Private is much better. You'll also find that they allow ratios of .4 on some trackers as there needs to be leechers for people to have 2:1 / 35:1 ratios (eg, uploaders)
