Will BF2 run on a p4 3ghz, 1gig ram... 256mb shared to video (I know, buying a video card soon)?

If so, sweetly done.

Awww :( I got 2 weeks to save up and grab one before then... my mate (company) who built my comp has 512mb cards for $100... Geforce 7300... sounds a bit suss.

Anyone recommend the most budget video card that will run new games (HL2 and the like)?

But you did respond to his opinion, so he does give a s***, which means you two need to get a room and bone each other homoly.

*Wipes tear away* I've missed you Booyah.

CHUB: I wouldn't touch a 7300 with a ten foot pole. I imagine the whole "512mb ram" is actually 256mb on teh card then 256mb of system memory borrowed from teh system ram through turbocache. This amount of memory is wasted on such a low performance card. I'd recommend paying around $200 or a bit more and getting a 6800xt or 6600gt. 6600gt is a sure fire bang for buck card, but with the 6800xt you could get lucky and unlock all the quads and shaders, giving you $400 worth of video card for like $215.

bf2 will struggle on it in 1280x1024 or 1440x1024. Both of these are likely to be your monitors native res if it's a TFT so stay clear :)

spare a thought for me ffs. 1920x1200 with a 6800gt :( The settings should go like this:
[Ultra Detail] -> [High Detail] -> [Medium Detail] -> [Low Detail] -> [Hey that brown texture moved] -> [Is that a tank or a guy?] -> [Dafugg's settings]

I see guys :) My montior is a piece of s***... 1024 x res :) I'll look into those cards, should be able to scrape up the cash before 13th.

So that system + card would run HL2 fine?

Cool maybe if I up the RAM it might be a goer.

Didn't you say a few posts ago that you are finally getting it?

I run 3.2GHz 1Gb ram and a 6800GT(256mb) and I have trouble running it on anything above low-medium.
Fps is fine with the video settings on medium to high but there is alot of texture loading stuttering.
On high to very high fps goes pear shaped.

I run it on a 2100+, 756 meg ram, 9600xt at 800xwhatever res on medium to low settings, shadows are turned off.

It takes a little while to load and chugs from time to time. Alot of the chugging I get is because I have an old slow harddrive.

If you have a better system then mine, specially in the CPU area, it should be playable.

you basically need tops specs to run bf2 well. i have a 3.0ghz, 2gb ram and 7800gtx. it runs fine.

i used to have 1gb ram and 5900fx and it struggled on medium settings. if you want the best bf2 experience (i used that term loosely), you will def need to invest in better hardware.
