Topic: I bought a house at a garage sale

My GF and I had like 6 house queued up to look at on saturday, and we had an open house in springwood at 12, we arrived there and found out it was actually at 12:30

My parents were with us since dad is a builder and can give us a quick run down structurally of the houses, and he suggested we go look at one of the 3 garages sales we passed just down the road while we wait for the 12:30 open house to start

We went to one, had a look around and were about to leave, when the woman there goes "is there anything in particular you're looking for?" and my dad says jokingly "a house", she says "oh you can have ours, do you want to have a look?" After a minute we thought screw it, why not went through and had a look at this awesome house with pool and new bathroom and fairly new kitchen, it was great, so we rang them back the next day and made them an offer and after a little negotiating they accepted!

So yeah, I bought a house at a garage sale. We've just gotta sign the contract and get the place checked for building properly and pest/finance and we're set! Great price (compared to the crap we've seen around the same area for the same price) great location, and no agents so the sellers don't need to take a huge chunk of a loss in commission

And here's some photos :) http://photos.potatoz.net/thumbnails.php?album=5

Looks like a nice place Wet. Pool is awesome.

Now you and Fiona just need some pesky kids to go with it.

Houses in coorparoo can sell for $1.13M, so $400k in woodridge isn't bad.

Nice find. $330K for that looks like you got a good deal. Well done. Not having to deal with real estate f*****s is a huge plus too.

If you see my gunmetal s13 scooting around rochedale/springwood/underwood/etc say hi :)

Man what a s*** house.

Just kidding! Nice house mate, good work - look like it's meant to be. Pretty reasonable price too. Lets hope the building inspections turned out ok for you.

Is it just me or does the kitchen look a bit small and confined? Apart from that I love the outside area. So this is your first one Wet?

Nice work dude. My mum has the same oven as that.

Seriously, in reality I think you kinda ripped them off with that price! Still, neither of you had to deal with real estate assnuggets so +goodness.

the kitchen is pretty big, it's got a lot of bench space as they're fairly deep, there's only one entrance though from around the side which makes it seem a bit tighter since you're almost surrounded on all sides

awesome man!

it sure was frustrating looking at houses in brisbane
soooo many over priced

feel good when you find a house that just grabs you

we are totally loving our new place at salisbury
seems like a really nice neighbourhood, nice and quiet, not too far away from all the important things

time to settle down and get stuck into the mortgage!

spook: that was what we found when looking at annerley. Little hovels for $400K. People whack new paint and stainless steel appliances in and think they've added $100K to the value, yet underneath there's so much maintenance work that's just been covered up.

Then we found our awesome modern house over in Rochedale South and bought it in a snap.

yer, we have friends at rochdale south and they desparately wanted us to buy there as well

nice houses, and definately much better value for money (their place is awesome)

but i just couldnt face commuting on the freeway in traffic each day

i had pretty much given up finding a house at the price we wanted in any suburb we liked until we found our current place, and even then i was a bit nervous

but now we are in, i totally love it

salisbury is awesome, even though its KKK territory (kaos kar klub)
only 15/20 minutes to work, none of it sitting at a standstill, which drives me mental

did the garage come with the house or did you have to pay extra?

What if they don't actually own it? Did you do a bit of research into the title? Did you end up looking at the other house?
WetWired

well I'm pretty sure that our solicitors will find that out if they don't when they do their title searches.

and yeah we went to the other house, it was s***

I didn't see a reference to title searches so that's why I had to ask. I hope everything goes well for you.
