Hey all,
Need some help with a comptuer upgrade as I havn't done this computer mumbo jumbo for ages so have lost alot of knowledge. My current setup is: Amd barton 2500+ Abit Nf7-S Corsair 2x 256mb Twinx Radeon 9600 pro ViVo Antec 480w True Power Psu Western Digital 80gb 8mb cache DVD Drive CD Burner Anyway I want to upgrade so the computer can last another 2 years (this one lasted about that before games are now jsut s***house). I want something thats an all rounder, lots of school work (neesd to be bloody realible), video editing and gaming on school holidays. Preety much I just want to upgrade the core bits of the computer (hard drive, mobo, cpu, gfx card..). So will the PSU be enough for an upgrade or will that need to be upgaded as well? I've got a full tower case and plenty of fans, so ventilation isn't much of an issue. My budget is below 2 grand, nothing more. Cheers ps. I hope i posted this in the right section.. |

I'd get at least a gig of RAM; if you can squeeze in an AMD dual core that'd probably be awesome too. I don't know enough about it to really offer any useful suggestions though.

Two grand will buy a LOT these days. I'd recommend 2x1GB RAM, dual 320GB drives (one for backup if you want), an Athlon64 X2 4200+ processor, GeForce 7800 GT VIVO video card, and an ASUS A8N-E motherboard (or A8N-SLI if you think you might want to go SLI at some point). This will cost around $1800-$1900, and you should be able to sell off the parts from your old system for at least a couple hundred bucks as well.
Your power supply is more than adequate. With this upgrade you'll be more than capable of running all games coming out in the next two years, and probably longer. You might also want to consider getting a Pioneer DVD burner, as they're only about sixty bucks. Have fun! |

Target has a a good set of suggestions. My thoughts on this are that If its for gaming then AMD over P4, a good pprocessor would be an AMD 64 3500+ or higher, this should keep u gaming for a long time. For ur GFx card im a strong Ati fan but these new Nvidia cards r really good and cheap, if u can afford it go for a Geforce 7 series card because they have a lot of great features that previous cards dont have eg. i would choose a 7600 over an X800 even though the X800 is faster the Nvidia card has more features that will keep u going (like SM3,HDR support ect). And make sure u have at LEAST 1gb of ram if not 1.5 or 2 because these newer games r real memory hoggs. I hope iv helped you.
P.S, r going to sell ur NF7-s board, id b more then happy to buy it off u for the right price if ur interested |
