Topic: Old laptop ram...

I've got my hands on an old p3 notebook that's in perfectly reasonable order, except that it's only got 64mb ram... which is a little shy of how much I'd really like in it.

The way I figure it, notebooks of this age are being tossed all the time because they don't work... and I want to get my hands on some of that ram that's just being binned. Buying it new is a joke, it's way more expensive than this project justifies. Second hand from O/C or whatever is a bit hit and miss... and I know there's those big hardware places that reclaim leased stuff constantly... I'd bet they have big buckets of the stuff.

My question is... does anyone know of a good place to look for that sort of thing?

is it the 144pin sdram variety???

they've got a 256meg stick for 55 bucks or something.. I've bought from them in the past, memory cards and the like and they're cheap and quick... Having said that like most 'importer' stores they're hard to communicate with but aslong as you try to follow their directions it usually works out :p

Thanks Boxhead... yeah that's the stuff... I guess I was hoping to get second hand memory more than new stuff. $60 isn't much I guess, but I can't imagine I can't get the kind of stuff I want cheaper. I guess I'm thinking specifically about those places that put together s***eloads of those ex-lease computers, they must rip the ram out of everything that doesn't work, just like they'd pull out HDD's etc. They must be able to give me something cheaper second-hand...
