Topic: NEWS - Virus watches mouse clicks

COMPUTER hackers have developed a way of recording mouse clicks, as well as keystrokes, using a new form of virus.

Hackers have created thousands of viruses that collect keyed-in login information, such as bank account passwords, after infecting a computer.

Internet security expert Allan Bell said banks were introducing virtual keyboards to improve the security of their sites, but hackers had caught up.

Hmm, having been recently labeled an idiot for not having Internet banking I suddenly don't feel as bad now. =)

Story here

And in related news...

IN THE equivalent of a hold-up in cyberspace, a new computer virus locks up a user's file with encryption and demands a $US300 ($405) "ransom," security experts say.

The so-called "ransomware" Trojan was discovered Saturday by the security firm LURHQ, which said it was based on a similar scheme perpetrated 15 years ago.

In poorly written English, the message said: "Do not try to search for a program what encrypted your information - it simply do not exists in your hard disk anymore. If you really care about documents and information in encrypted files, you can pay using electronic currency 300 dollars. Reporting to police about a case will not help you."

We were wondering about this in the internet banking thread. I guess, it won't ever be completely safe to use. But that doesn't mean it isn't a wortwhile thing.

You'd still have to be stupid enough to install said virus.

you can still setup your internet banking securely regardless of loggers. i have my internet banking accounts set so that all i (or anyone else) can do is transfer funds from one of my accounts to another of my accounts or pay bills.
if those crazy hackst0rers still wanna log my username & password... the worst they could do is tranfer some of my monies around my different accounts or pay my bills for me :P
i even have it set so that if i enter a new biller... i have to wait for the bank to ring me to authorise it for payment... pretty secure imo.

Well given there was a thread discussing how secure internet banking was not long ago I thought the first news artical somewhat relevant as people were saying how secure it was having virtual keyboards instead of using their keyboards to enter their details. The second artical I found interesting.

If you find my posting useless, then by all means, should you see a topic with the title "NEWS" in it, and "Tanaka Khan" as the poster, don't click on it, it's as simple as that!
