Uncomfirmed reports of Dell purchasing Alienware
Looks like the icing on the cake for Dell was that they will now be able to use AMD (which Alienware do) processors Source 1: Source 2: If your really left in doubt as to whether it's true or not, have a look at the new Alienware website Either way.. Still f***ing expensive |

Unconfirmed word spreads this morning that Dell as acquired specialty computer maker in a bid to remain on the cutting edge.Huh, just sell realy expensive computers, there's nothing cutting edge that's unique to alienware is there? |

Not so much as cutting edge as just one of the only viable alternatives to Dell for high end laptops (read $$$) has now become part an parcel of their line. Kinda sad really

I hear Dell are to open up their next few dozen retail stores along the Aussie eastern seaboard in the coming months.
credit where it's due: Dell's aren't bargain basement 'Harvey Norman' pos computers eh. This will hopefully mark as a long overdue change for our pathetic Aussie IT Retail Industry: it's shown no signs of returning to the same intregrity it showed over a decade ago. Here's to hoping Dell's future entry to the retail arena lifts the bar overall |

Hopefully they repeat the same success Gateway had. Really don't like them, even if they're better than Hardly Normal.

Actually, I saw a Dell "shop" at Chermside last weekend. Not really a retail shop I guess but, it's a stall, with sample number of PCs & staff so I think you're on the ball there. We also use Dell gear here and never had any problems with it (apart from them getting older). The oldest PC is about 3 years old and it's still going. I had to replace HDD on one of them but it's HDD they bound to died. Other than that support etc has been really good for business customers. |

I missed out on those speakers and ended p buying the DT3500 from Creative (which were awesome - while the head unit lived. Speakers are still going strong even after)
Now I'm using a set of 750s Gigaworks (wayyyyy louder an cleaner) |

Sure the fact you can customise laptops makes them handy, but they really only compare to Acer in terms of quality. And Acer beat the crap out of them for value in business/home laptops for value. I'd much rather a shiny Sony/Fujitsu/HP/Compaq/Toshiba/IBM anyday over a dell. Thats not to say Dell aren't good, and they are... but they aren't the be all and end all of laptops. |

I would give Dell credit over IBM or HP or Compaq. Toshiba just make the sexiest laptops ever, so I wont say dell is better, but for bang for buck and service and quality of build and parts, dell is pretty damn far up there.
A lot of sony's recent models have been slammed in reviews ( I have not used them yet ) and the HPs are not that great a built, and they have a rather massive footprint and weigh 3 tonne. Admitidly I own a dell so I guess I am a biased, But I sure as hell would be comparing them to something as low grade as Acer :/ |

i love the people that bash dell...only cause my dell laptop eats their 'desktop gaming rig' for breakfast...
how many laptops have you seen run BF2 @ 1920x1200 HIGH 4XAA extremely smooth.. hold on im getting ahead of myself...how many laptops have you seen with native res 1920x1200 baha I've had it for a year now and the only thing i have upgraded was the 'old' 6800 ultra to the 7800 GTX Go....i still have 3 years complete care with accidental damage and anti theft and all that other s***ty dell support stuff...right? :) but i'll be selling it before i fly home later this year...never was a laptop person...just needed a portable system to play my games while im overseas. |
