A NIGHT out at the cinema just isn't as appealing as it used to be, with more and more people opting to save extra bucks by staying at home with a DVD. So who here would prefer a night at home with their significant others/friends/cats and watch a dvd and have a few quiet drinks over heading out to a cinema? The only draw card that might have me chose the cinema over staying at home (apart from not being allowed to take my cats) is if the movie is a new blockbuster type that I just HAVE to see on the big screen. Otherwise I'm just as happy staying at home or hanging at a friends place. Story |

hmm $2 for a dvd or $20* for a movie, I wonder what's going to win.
* including the extremely over priced food and drinks |

Not just the noisy tards, but $13.50 a ticket (god forbid you got a bird) to put up with an insulting amount of advertisement, uncomfortable seating etc? Do us a favour.
Dvds ftw. |

with the price of projectors and plasma's these days with ubber HTC setups find that not suprising at all, good night at home on dvd with projector or put up with kiddies at movies with laser pointers and popcorn throwing, hmm i wonder witch is the better choice.

I still like going to the movies every once in a while, but yeah... this is no surprise at all.
Protip: Stop f***ing overpricing all of your s***. Tickets, food... do you even know how much s*** costs outside of your little establishment? Why the f*** would I wanna pay $13.50 for a ticket to potentially sit in a theatre full of teenage f***wits (who don't get policed and punished / ejected nearly as much as they should), and to eat overpriced food? Hell, even if ticket prices were much lower, and you took a real hard-line with troublemakers, I'd go twice as much as currently. Right now though, it's easier to rent/buy/download whatever the f*** you want, and not have to deal with the bulls*** that comes with going to the movies. |

I definitely prefer dvd to cinema. If nothing else, it means we don't have everyone stare at us when we walk in and Greyden just about shouts "These cinemas smell like cat piss."
Also cuts out those annoying types who talk right through the movie (unless you have Evis over :-P) |

84" screen, 5.1 500+ watt surround system
I'll wait for DVD cause I can pause to go take a piss, grab a beer or nail the wench of the moment and come back to the movie For a whole lot less than a $90 effort in Gold Class |

I don't mind going to the movies but since I'm not earning $100k/yr to afford the overpriced tickets + overpriced popcorn + overpriced snacks + overpriced drinks.. it just doesn't happen anymore.

I'm a stay at home kind of person. I'd rather sit at home with friends/family & watch movies on tv but yeah for a decent enough movie I'll go see it at the cinema. To me nothing beats the big screen. Sure I could buy a 7.1 point surround sound system for my home but I got nowhere to put a bigass screen/projector :(
Also cuts out those annoying types who talk right through the movie (unless you have Evis over :-P) this is why I usually go to the last showing of the night, 9:30ish. There isn't usually many people at the movie and there's almost never any whiney brat kids there. I honestly don't see the point in paying $15 to go to the movies to sit in the dark and f***ing talk the whole way through. |

Chermslum cinemas charge something like $14.50 now. |

i love the movies aslong as the cinema is clean and doesnt smell, alot of the older smells. soutbank cinemas rock on a random weeknight $6's for the movie huge ass screen, though i usually limit my cinema outings to movies im really hanging for, the rest i pirate or wait till it comes out on dvd.

I'll never go back to the cinema again. I've had enough of f***-wits talking thru the movie and there's no one there to stop them or kick them out. Until BCC learn to kick peoples asses when they are constabtly chatting thru movies they'll never see me again.

I am currently hatching my evil plan to get the wife into selling our current home of 15yrs to build a slightly bigger house on a smaller block. Currently on a half acre and well after all my medical problems of the last few years I cant maintain the yard ect...bit disabled actualy so I should get the sympathy vote. :)
Anyways, my evil plan is to have a dedicated Home Theatre room built in the new house and it will certainly rock with the goodies I want to put in there when the time comes. I can see why cinemas are suffering, not only because of the cocksnaps that go there but its horrendously expensive let alone take a family along. Gold Class is ok for a treat, but with my evil Dedicated Home Theatre, I will be able to get s***faced and not have any worries about getting home. The State of Origins on a 3 metres screen will rock! :P last edited by Psycho! at 00:45:53 11/Mar/06 |

I love DVDs and pay TV but in the last two months I've seen about 8 movies. I've had no problems. All were cheap (Balmoral whenever and Dendy cinemas - Monday) and had choice seating. Ppl who go to Dendy and Balmoral too are generally film ppl and not their to hang out eg. Carindale cinemas. But then again maybe it's just the movies I go see, i.e. not kiddy/teen movies.

Much prefer the cinema, but because of the prices (snacks especially) I only bother for good movies .. which there aren't too many of.
And it really s***s me when the DVD is pretty much out overseas before a movie even hits the cinemas here. If that movie happens to be any good, everyone in Australia will have downloaded it by then. |

And believe me, it beats Greyden talking as loud as he can about how: A) That girl two rows in front has no tits and looks like she got hit by a bus. B) The fact he just farted. C) How much the movie sucks. :-P |

I definitely perfer DVDs over cinemas. Same reasons as everyone else who also prefer to watch DVDs at home. I find that movies in general are just not worth the money. I can wait 3-4 months for any movies to come out on DVDs, could be because I'm getting old :)

home cinema > public cinema.
a couple of my mates, my old man & my oldest bro all have kick arse home cinemas with digital projectors... i am never going to the public cinemas again! it's just better value, by far! [edit] after reading the article :P~ i disagree with the bit at the bottom where it assumes people will still come to cinema for that 'big screen effect'. all my friends & rellies home cinemas have clearly superior audio & visual quality compared to the public cinemas... especially audio! you can also seat yourself so that the screen fills your vision for that 'big screen immersion'. last edited by demon at 13:26:31 11/Mar/06 |

Free parking, they give you token when you ask for it at the box office. Well Balmoral is, Hawthorne you can park on the road and I think Southbank has free parking too.

well if you consider what it does and even if you watched a 2-3hrs every night on it..a new bulb every 1-2 years is not bad really. about $2.40 a night i think...thats about what I pay in power and chemicals for a nice pool for the kids so its all relative...and I so want Demon to be my friend. :P
The standard surround package that I already have will be used for most day to day stuff i.e. foxtel and FTA digital..so I reckon I'll et more than 3 yrs out of a bulb. People over on the HT and Digital forums who have seen the Sony PJ in action are lost for words, its apparently that good. |

Last time we went to the movies we got spat on by a row of teenagers behind us and we couldn't hear the movie because they decided to laugh at any bit of the movie, even if it wasn't funny. DVD at home in my recliner thankyou very much. Plus, if we didn't get DVD's Reverend Evil wouldn't have any friends to talk to at work |
