Omg its another problem with a asus a8n-sli :P Not wanting to hijack simuls thread i thought i'd start my own.
A while back I was having serious issues with my comp - every time It'd start and get to the point where it would start playing windows sound it would crash. So that tweaked me to the sound card. Sure enough I disabled the onboard ac97 sound and although soundless for the last month i've had no problems. Fast forward to last weekend - went out and bought a creative sound blaster value and installed it. Pretty easy right? Wrong! For some reason even though device manager is telling me its installed and running fine sound & audio devices is telling me "no audio device". I've tried taking it out a million times and different pci slots. Any ideas? |

Is this the A8n - Premium or the Deluxe?
I have the premium and its probably one of the best boards I've ever owned. zero issues with it at all. Im running two XFX 7800gtx cards and also the Audigy2 zs s/card in it. I am also running the Nforce 4 (6.70) chipset drivers. last edited by Psycho! at 10:34:42 22/Feb/06 |

It just the standard a8n - no deluxe or anything. And i've tried both cd drivers as well as net ones. I've installed this thing so many god damned times.
I have a feeling that the ac97 just won't release the sound from its cold dead fingers. So i'm gonna give a format a shot i think just not sure if it will help. Was hoping for an easy fix :P |

It just the standard a8n there's your problem right there, apparently that board had so many issues with it when first released, try over at OCAU mate, I do recall a lot of people with issues there. |

I had the same problem, although I needed to run both my Audigy and the onboard at once for what I was doing. It didn't like it one bit so after pissing off the onboard sound it worked fine.
