What's the go on these emo roll over ads, can you guys get rid of them? Their fine the first time you see them and you want them to come up cause you might be curious about how s*** 'Date Movie' will be. But it's getting to piss me off, that everytime I open a thread I have to listen to the s*** ad until I figure out which tab it's strated in. I'm considering getting an ad blocker which would be bad for the site, no?

yeah, this ad has been s***ting me because rolling over it starts the movie, but I've assumed any negative discussion on ads will be blown sky high

Isn't the idea that add blockers somewhat defeat the point of having ads such that QGL may remain free?

Those ads are pissing me off though, they're all over Keenspace at the moment as well.

Amaya, (though I'm sure you realise from what I have threaded [get it??? =)] from your posts so this is mostly for the uninformed)
You can have Ad-Block installed an 'whitelist' a particular site and/or page so that it's advertisements play as per the site owners intentions. It would be much nicer though if an ad indicated whether it was a 'click-thru' or just a banner as I respond differently to each case.

If it's a banner ad and the site receives funding by the volume of times it is displayed to each user then so be it (even if grudgingly). However, if it's a 'click thru', (where no benefit is gained by site owners if it is simply viewed and no action taken by the end user) which relies on a person clicking on it an visiting a 3rd party site, that never happens with me so why does the end user need to see the ad in the first place?

because the advertising still has some theoretical value for the advertiser simply by being seen (a la television advertising)

Insom. I hear what your saying an agree with you to an extent. I'm just speaking from a personal view point here when I say that prefer to evaluate things from my own grounds an not on an already established playing field (which you only ever see from a marketing perspective).
I guess when it comes down to it I'm a person who by default has an objective nature to having anything forcefed to me and would prefer to discover things for myself and not rely on someone elses (ie the marketer/sellers) biased opinion

I block all ads because ads are gay.

If you have ever used the pause button to skip them on tapes, fastforwarded them or muted them and you want to complain to me then you are a dirty hypocrit.
