My CDROM is in my "Send To" items when I right click. I think its responsible for making my menu take ages to load when I right click on stuff, so I want to get rid of it. Unfortunately the information on the MS site about how to get rid of items doesn't extend to the CDROM so Iw as wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to get rid of it, or if its hard coded to always be there.

Just disable your cdrom when your not using it, ultimately, if it keeps on freezing you know its not your cdrom, and if it doesnt you should invest in a new one.

Check C:\Documetns and Settings\trogisthebest\SendTo\

Could be a shortcut there for it

Or a dodgy shortcut causing your menu to take ages to load..

Tried disabling Windows inbuilt BurnCD function?

Oz, thanks - read that whole thread, lots of people with the exact same problem. Here's the solution, at least for me:

If you have a drive letter you want to remove from ONLY the Send To context menu and it's a CD/DVD burner, you can disable Windows recording properties for the drive. Right click on the drive in question, click on the Recording tab. Uncheck the "Enable CD recording on this drive". This will prevent you from dragging and dropping files to the drive within Windows Explorer. But it will also remove the drive letter from the Send To contect menu.

hmm good point, thought there was a registry fix for it...heh guess not. :)

but at least it fixed your problem, and who uses windows in built burning anyways?

i do from time to time.
i do fuk all burning tho(hdd's) windows burning is quick and easy, no loading chuggy nero to burn a simple cd

Trog. You can DL this freeware proggy called "Send To Toys 2.4"

It allows to you to install tools to add or remove pretty much anything you want from the send to folder. If you want, you can install the tool which only adds/removes HD drives/cd drives in the send to folder. After you install it, just right click on your CD rom drive and select, "remove from send to folder"

works for me Punisher. Did you install the applet/control panel option at the top of the list as well?

All I did after installing was right click on the CD rom drive in file explorer as click, "remove from send to menu"

how does the drive perform when you run the diagnostic that comes with Nero?

A dying drive will effect other drives sharing the same circuit from your psu.

It probably goes without saying, but a fault like this is reason enough to backup critical data to dvd.

Nothing that irritates me more than a drive that sounds asthmatic...
I have a tndency to stick a sword through optical units that annoy me for any length 'o time when they do this.
A half working unit entices you to keep trying to use it, a completely snapped/totalled device forces you to move on

ET: yep, and I get the option to 'remove from send to' when I right click my cdrom or floppy and it seems to accept being clicked. but then when I check send to again, there it is the stubborn little bugga :)

no drama though, I didn't actually wanna remove it, was just interested in trying it
