3D Mark 06, the latest iteration of the popular benchmarking tool, has been released. Download it now locally from AusGamers. Some screenshots of the lushness are available in our screenies section. It weighs in at 600mb, around twice as big as 3D Mark 05. Post your scores here to see who wins at the Internet!

I particularily liked the 0 FPS chugfest that was 2 of the demos.

Man, noone seems too interested in this. We didn't get anywhere near as many downloads as with the last ones - I wonder if its because its sooooooooo much bigger, or if people have just lost interest in the wangfest that is benchmarking?

I think no one really cares if they can run the benchmark or not. I'm gonna see how it goes with my s***ty 2800XP and my uber X800 Pro card.

All I care is that the games I play will run at a decent frame rate. Actually, as long as I can play WoW I'm happy.

I didn't find 3DMark'06 all that new, exciting, nor useful. Plenty of rehashed content from '05.

I'd say it would be similar to the jump from XP to Vista. Why bother, you know?

indeed but i also reckon majority of people are getting sick of not being able to run the bench satisfingly well enough.
but also most of us have gotten to know how good we are percentage-wise verse the rest in the world.
so the results wouldnt be anywhere near enough suprise or satisfaction to bother downloading and installing and then running/waiting.

but most of all, our memorys tell us the graphics didnt seem like a huge jump from the previous version and just wernt that special compared to the current games.

but why have i bothered to think deeply about it??? ive got Flatout to play

when/if they bring out DX10, and a 3d mark make a direct X 10 benchmark, alot of people will download it. but its really just the same stuff all over again?

If you run Vista by that time, I doubt you'd have any system resources left to actually run 3DMark.

"3DMark, the gamers benchmark" whata crock of s***.

My system runs every new game with no problems at all in full detail with full screen AA. I downloaded 3Dmark06 and I average less than a couple of frames per second.

for the record, my machinee has 2 gig of ram, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ and a Radeon X800 XT video card with 256 meg of ram on it.

Pfft to futuremark.
These ass hats at Futuremark have NO relevance to todays gaming comminuity.

I'd hazzard a guess that this is the reason the new release has been so unpopular, everyone who downloaded 3dmark05 and found themselves looking at tests running at 1-5 fps have already figured that out and have decided 06 is just going to be even worse and aint gonna bother.

I know I'm in that boat, infact I didn't even bother with 05.

I downloaded it, everything ran at about 1fps (if i was lucky) on a p4 2.4 6600gt, went "meh" and uninstalled it.

At least with older versions you could "tweak" your s***ty systems and see some difference (which might translate into games), but now i either get 1 fps or 1.01 and its only relevant to 3dmark, who cares?

I was getting about 2fps on an Nvidia Quadro card at work. The CPU test averaged about 0.25fps.

3DMark06 is a nice slideshow.

The other funny thing is it defaults to 1280x1024 and unless you purchase the thing or run into a serial key you can't change it.

That means everyone with a 15" LCD screen cannot run the test (well from all the ones I've seen they wont go that high), I know this would be a minority but hey at work thats what we were given in the service dept.

I still haven't installed a proper video card in my system yet but here's my cpu score -

1911

The cpu is a dual core 3800 oc'ed to 2557MHZ.
The test was ran at the default 1280 x 1024. I am sure I could get it to run even quicker if I tuned my system a bit more. I have some ram cooling going in soon which should allow me to push it a bit more.

Took me a while to figure out that this bench seems to only work properly with the Forceware 81.98 drivers.

I think if it was totally chugging for you, then it might be that you weren't using the correct drivers?

Score: 7587
