Saw a link to speedcubing.com on slashdot - a site devoted to uber-fast solving of Rubik's cubes. This guy has a bunch of videos - totally nuts how fast they are. I remember being stoked when I was a kid getting one side :(

LOL, I always broke mine apart then put them back together the right way, then i would never touch them again for fear of messing them up.

I peeled the coloured square stickers off and rearranged them so to look like I had solved it :)

yer, that's some crazy s*** - particularly blindfolded cubing
I'm happy enough being able to solve one in about 2-3 minutes. |

Hmm, I wouldn't mind learning some of the corner out methods, I average about 1:30 using my method now

I remember when I first got a Rubiks cube back in the early 80's and then everyone decided to get one.

I rekon it'd be fun to f*** with their minds and give them a cube that can't be solved ... ie. break apart 2 or 3 cubes and put them back together so that there is no possible solution

Maybe they use a type of brail on the cubes to identify the colours?

Holy crap!
Even if it's set up and he just remembers the sequence that he turned the cube to move it away from being done and just reverses it there are so many moves it would take ages to learn how to do it. |

Has anyone tried those crazy new cubes that have heaps more blocks then the original ones?
I had a math teacher that showed the class how a simple method can be used to solve the Cube, it took him 30 seconds to do it, including stopping to tell us what he was doing. I was in awe at that. Blindfold cubing, that is beyond awe :D |

I would say it would be a reference dot... so he knows which side is which... because you wouldn't want to tip it the wrong way, then do all the incorrect moves.
Probably wrong though, but makes sense. |
