The first two episodes of Season 5 aired tonight in the US, with two more to follow tomorrow night.

I have no idea where that prequel advert-for-toyota fits in but it didn't seem to have anything at all to do with this season.

Anyway, much death and mayhem in the first two hours, and 24 is looking a lot like a Die Hard as it heads in to episode 3.

Already the Kim run-run-run character has been identified, Chloe's doing her pensive looks, and Tony's doing what he does best. All in all it looks like it will be a whole heap of the usual 24 love, but this time without Islam as the half-enemy (unless they are Chechens, but i'm guessing it's the Chinese from last season.)

Maybe it's the stuff they got Palmer with at the end of S1. They did spend a while on the scar on his hand during the first episode of this season.

They said they werent going to do anything stupid like jack fighting off a hurricane... even though with the help of gordon tallis he probably could.

Damn, ep 5 was pretty good. Loved the fight scene near the end with Jack and that assassin dude. One thing I still find funy is that it's still so easy to infiltrate CTU.

Ep 5's closing scene was funny: 'I don't work for CTU. I'm going after Walt Cummings myself.' Then it cuts to Walt, and he looks like he is s***ting his pants even *before* he knows he has a pissed-off Jack Bauer on his case hehe.

Well to be fair CTU was infiltrated by someone from the presidents office this time, not some random durka durka jihad guy.

Fight at the end was good, although Jack usually tries to keep people alive for later torture, this time he just jammed the scissors right into his neck even though the assassin already looked pretty f***ed.

Unlike the dude at the start who he killed, that was also a trained assassin, but had to tell him that he'd personally shot Palmer.

Pretty much first tiem I've really sat down and watched 24 (seen a few reandom episodes here and there), picked up the entire plot from S1 to current pretty quickly with Mongie's running commentary.

Totally hooked, it was awesome.

Watch the other seasons immediately.

That was a great ep. The scene where Jack is threatening to cut out the eye reminded me of Hostel, except it really happened in that. Never thought the nerve gas would go missing though...not!

I would rate them S4 > S1 >>>> S3 > S2 and this one about as good as s1. (note: S4, S1 are much better than S3, S2)

jack wasn't in this weeks ep too much, but still very awesome moments

lynn getting thrown out, arron taking out the 2 guys and 1 with flame thrower, ROCKETS!!, some intense presidential decision making (lol) and bauer doing a little macgyver stuff at the end to avoid death (again) :P

this show makes tv and even blockbuster movies look very lame in comparison

I was going to make a "Run Kim Run" joke, and ridicule the "Who's Tony gonna kill?" plot-line but that was the saddest episode of 24 ever and i'm left feeling very down :-(

Apart from that I didnt mind the emo parts of the episode, I think 24 needed some emo parts. You get interested in the characters and because of the whole 24 hour period thing Jack isnt exactly going round to Tonys house for a BBQ any episode soon.

And I wouldnt be suprised if this series ended with Jack popping himself in the head, looks like he cracked a bit this episode :P

Anyway, why didn't the hobbit and the security dude try and find some gas masks somewhere in CTU? Surely they would have that sort of equipment stored somewhere? I mean, Samwise could have shut down that program while the other dude tried to find some masks/tanks/whatever.

The gas masks would have had nerve gas trapped inside them when you tried to put them on.

Also they were probably too far away to get to/gain access to (keys?) whilst holding your breath.

Do you reckon they all could have held the breath and made a run for the front door?

Having so many characters killed off presents an interesting idea. How about going back and doing a prequel season on a day a few years before the one covered in the first season? Alienating the members of the current viewer base who haven't been with us since the beginning would be a concern, but they have to introduce a whole lot of new characters next season anyway. It couldn't be too much trouble inking the signatures of the former actors either. Most of them haven't exactly moved on to bigger and better things. Still, I like some of the current characters and they couldn't be on for more than special guest stars.
