After much googling, I can't find any direct comparisons so curious if anyone else has/is in the same boat.

At the moment I have a gametheatre 7.1, which has survived countless generations of creative cards. However now that x64 is out, and seeing its doubtful there will be 64 bit drivers, I'm considering going back to creative. Looking at either the X-Fi Xtreme Music or Platnium. Anyone know whether I'm going to get a noticable boost in sound quality? Or should i just stick with 32 bit/Gametheatre for another generation?

Also any advice on the different types of x-fi's would be great if u know anything about the different models.

I assume you mean x64 as in windows 64bit? if you go that, and there's no 64bit drivers for your sound card it won't work anyway. I would imagine these days most/all sound cards from decent manufacturers would pretty much sound the same to the average user on average hardware.

Get an SB Augigy 2ZS card. They're cheap and work awesomely so unless you're not some pompus audio knob who reckons they can hear the difference it's an awesome card.

Toon Town sounds so much better on a X-Fi Xtreme Music

A friend has the X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS and after a few initial glitches (noob setup issues) he loves it and swears that he can notice the difference in games. He's no pompous audio knob either. I'm looking at getting the same card myself to go with my Creative GigaWorks S750 speakers as well in the very near future.

yeah, the fatality looks nice, ironic name considering the price tho :o

do you know whether there is any sound quality difference between the fatality and the platnium? or is it just the ram for games and the logo?

if it makes toontown sound better then im sold

Dunno actually, haven't heard them both.

no sound quality difference whatsoever between all the x-fi models.
