Wondering what people are thinking the album of the year could be?
I've heard people mention system of a down, block party, MIA, Sufjan Stevens , The White Stripes, Kanye West......

Album of year goes to pendulum imo.

favourite track(vinyl) of the year: tied between DJ Subsonic meets Titus - Rising High & Carbon Based - Cyclone

honorable mention goes to mylo's essential mix in april. he's given me new faith that house music can in fact be quite rawking.

it was a big year for british indie stuff and sabbath influenced retro bulls*** so unfortunately although I did buy several new albums this year, none of them really stood out for me :(

If I HAD to choose, it would be a toughy between:

Pendulum - Hold your Colour
Franz Ferdinand - You could have it so much better
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

I would have to choose Bloc Party - Positive Tension is by far my favourite song of the year... but my favourite album would/should go to the ferdiand.

Man, so many options!

Some great albums this year. I looked forward to Wolfmother's self-titled album for ages and was not disappointed - I'm listening to it more or less non-stop at the moment.

I was BLOWN AWAY by System of a Down's Mezmerize though. I really dug their previous albums but I thought this one was awesome. Hypnotize only slightly less so!

Mars Volta - Francis the Mute - very different but I really dug on this too.

Hanging out for the Hottest 100 next year!

Actually, I read something about tamara jaber and kyle sandilands. She called herself a 'true artist' and kyle added something like "yeah, she writes all her own music".

Wolfmother wins artist of the year, hands down. Absolutely *AWESOME* CD. Very original. Love "Mind's Eye" and "Woman" :).

Also, Bloc Party, I don't really know - heard a song of their's that goes something along the lines of "two more years, o two more years" (can't remember the rest) - was an *ok* song. Slowly growing on me.

And of course, James Blunt (esp "Goodbye My Lover"!!!) and Alex Lloyd are "amazing" ;).

Hmmm...I haven't heard Oasis' new CD but I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them. Hehe, damn! I've got the song "Champagne Supernova" stuck in my head now (love it though :) ).

Mmmm...new album isn't all that great but I liked their last album.

(...yeah, I have a rather eclectic taste in music).

True.

Wolfmother wins in the end though (which is all that really matters, right?).

Also, I liked Gwen Stefani's album. Very original too.

What does that even mean?

Anyway, Death Cab for Cutie put an album out this year, so I guess that qualifies as my choice with no other real competition.

I don't like any of the bands you mentioned in your post, but, as far as I'm concerned, anybody who actually enjoys 50 cent, has no place to say anything bad about any other band / album / genre.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's s***. There's no shame in liking a successful band. Get a life and stop trying so hard to be different.

Wolfmother are a lot of things... original isnt one of them! Don't get me wrong, i've got the album and they're a cool band live but they're such a derivitive rehash of Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin!

yeah i don't really get the wolfmother hype either, but they managed to get an authentic enough sounding retro thing and win a whole heap of fans so props to them I guess

Okkervil River at the Hopetoun Hotel was the best $15 I've ever spent. I'd actually never really listened to their albums much prior to the show, but the show was so great that it really made me go back and listen to the albums seriously, and damn am I ever glad that I did, both Black Sheep Boy and Down The River of Golden Dreams are incredible.

The newly released 'Black Sheep Boy Appendix' is also great.
