Time to pass on my current bits and was thinking that cordless may be the way to go.
I like the idea of not having cords etc (be much better on my new desk) but the whole 'lag' thing is of some concern. Are the current models any good? In particluar the Logitech MX3000? Thanks Edit BTW a search revealed little. |

I stuck with cords because I wasnt sure whether cordless was suited for gaming. But if you were going for a cordless I guess youd get the logi G7 fo sho. I have the cord version (g5) and i recommenderization it.

Mouse wise i have 2 Logitech G7 cordless laser mice.Great mice, swappable batteries, very light and smooth.Only gripe i have is im use to having 2 buttons on the left for my thumb (these mice are no good for lefties too =( ) and these only have one.The G7īs full-speed, bi-directional USB connection sends a blazing 500 reports/second* over 2.4 GHz wireless for a bulletproof connection
(Info taken fron CA website),so basically there is pretty much no lag to speak of. $139 each. Keyboards...last week i picked up 2 Logitech G15 Gamers Keyboards, where to begin?? The do have cords (USB) but its needed to support the back lit keys which rock hard!! 2 inbuilt USB ports,18 extra macro keys (with 3 settings making that 54 keys) LCD screen (being new there arnt alot of programs supporting this but give it time) and media control keys.My gripe with this is though its a bit too flat, even with the two rear feet put down, but i guess it will just take some getting use too. $109 each. Overall im quite happy with both of these items and recommend them highly. Edit- I am a heavy gamer too playing everything from WoW to FPS and these operate nicely too. last edited by Tanaka Khan at 01:23:52 22/Dec/05 |

With cordless I have not noticed one slight bit of lag. I'm not quite sure why people believe there is a lag - the bandwidth of the wireless connection is not less than that of USB so there is no lag. It's the same with wireless internet - speed of light and all that jazz.
I have the Logitech MX Duo. |

I've recently gone back to a cordless kb and mouse (just so happens to be a G5 and a G15).
There is a new MX series desktop set called the MX5000, pretty much a MX3000 but with a little remote control that controls your media (play, stop, ff, rev, volume etc). It's also bluetooth. Hope link works: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2158,CONTENTID=10776 |

Most of the cordless keyboards and mice that I have used have been so problematic that I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I have found that all the cordless stuff work better with good quality mb's with usb2 not usb1 and sometimes bios updates are needed to make them more stable. Go with the cords if you don't want hassles.

"the bandwidth of the wireless connection is not less than that of USB so there is no lag." bandwidth and response time are totally different. bandwidth is how much something can send at once, response time/lag is how long it takes for that info to get from one end to the other. ie: satelite home internet, great bandwidth (500k/s), yet more lag then a 56k modem. |

On the practical side, in my experience. The battery life of a cordless keyboard is totally arse. But cordless mice seem to be kind to their batteries. Also, I find that I don't actually move my keyboard around at all, so I just tuck the cord out of the way and forget it's there. Mice on the other hand, it doesn't matter what you do with the cord, it will always jump out and get tangled on something.
So IMHO, cordless mice are probably worth the trouble, cordless keyboards are probably not. |

Anyone tried the Microsoft Laser 6000 I read a review on this in the latest PC Powerplay and they gave it a score of 6/10. Pretty much a good mouse but some of the buttons felt like they were in a weird position, the side ones. Also, it can be used left or right handed which rocks seeing as I use the mouse in my left hand. If my MS Intillimouse dies on me I'll prolly grab one of these simply because of the design for us lefties. http://www.members.optushome.com.au/gpahl/mouse.jpg |

"bandwidth and response time are totally different. bandwidth is how much something can send at once, response time/lag is how long it takes for that info to get from one end to the other. So you are saying, if I had a mouse with a usb lead long to reach a satellite and back, that I would have a lesser response time than if I just used radio waves and a wireless kb/m? The difference in response time between a signal being translated into a wireless frequency, picked up by a receiver a metre or two away and then being translated back to straight usb is rediculously tiny. For comparison, if you can notice the difference between wireless and wired mice, you should also be able to notice a difference in your monitors response time by having a cable that's an extra metre long, since it takes more time for the signal to go from your video card to your monitor. ~-_- Of the other gripes, battery life is an issue (though not with the g7 since you always have another battery on the dock charging to full), and the refresh rate between the two top end wireless and non wireless mice is the same. Personally, the only problem I've had with a modern good quality wireless mouse, is that other wireless mice can sometimes get their signals mixed with yours and cause some chaos, and that shouldn't be a problem with bluetooth. |
