hey everyone i decided to be a little nostalgic (no offense to any hardcore q3ers) and give ra3 another shot.

I connected to one server originally but it only had 2 people on it. Im trying to connect to gamearena ra3 server now and its started to screw up on me. Ive installed 1.32 arena update and have the latest ra3 file (138 mb from qgl files area).

I am able to connect fully into the server, but about 1 - 2 seconds into the game it dc/s me and in the console it says something like "punbuster not connected to server".

am i supposed to have a seperate program for punkbuster open at the same time as playing q3? or is it built into the game engine or ?

edit: also, the multiplayer menu in the ra3 mod screen just goes to the original quake 3 arena multiplayer style menu, not customised for ra3 or aynthign

Is your PB up to date? Is PB enabled (pb_cl_enable from console)? Make sure PB is up to date with PBSetup: http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe

heya, yup ive updated the quake 3 punkbuster files with that program u linked me to and ive changed the config.cfg files to set cl_punkbuster 1 and sv_punkbuster 1.

o wait, i found the problem! ahhaha! i scrolled up and it seems i have been "permanently kicked/banned for prior punkbuster violations??". I havent played this game is soooooooo long and my ip has to have changed over the last 2 years? i have never used a cheat online in my life? what could the reasons for this be ?

Install Quake 3 incluing Punk Buster (PB)
Install Quake 3 1.32 point release
Install Rocket Arena 1.6
Run pbweb.exe (in the quake 3/pb folder, or just google it and download it)
Connect to server
Type /pb_cl_enable in the console


And so you aren't disadvantaged, type these in console before you connect:

/snaps 60 (having higher snaps seems to knock off the pb lag)

You can set all of that in game, except the maxpackets one, it gets write protected for some reason or something

never used a cheat online? has anyone used your cdkey?

I believe that's a master server ban, but it might be a GameArena ban - you can check if its the latter by trying an unban request - you'll need to know your punkbuster GUID though (referred to as a Unique ID in our unban request procedure)

q3 costs like 10 bucks now doesnt it? i might pick up another copy and see if that fixes it

The statistical likelihood is that they used it for cheating or being a jackass or gave it to someone that did the same. Soon as you let your cd key out of your grasp, you might as well write it off.
