Topic: Lancer 1.5L GLi's?

Hey guys as you may know i've been looking at cars lately. I've always liked the looks of lancers and i've come across a 2002 gli for $15k (has MR mags on it, spoiler, 47,000k's on it) seems in pretty good nick.

What i'm wondering is has anyone got one of these or know someone that does? Is the 1.5L engine still handle itself (got a bit of pull). Any other comments on the car. It comes with a 3 year warranty which sparked my interest initially and has kinda kept me drawn to the car.

I don't expect to go winning any races but are GLi's worth it or is it a case of MR(1.8L) or nothing?

The 1.5 goes fairly well but for a car that new I'd be aiming for the 1.8 or 2L engine varietys - my current car is a CC 1.5L Lancer and it goes alright for a daily driver but its slow on the highway onramps and is sluggish off the mark.

Personally I'd try and find a 1.8L model at least

69kw at 5500rpm doesnt seem all that impressive. Been driving around recently in a toyota echo 1.5l which has 80kw and even that seems quite slugish at times(especially accelerating up a hill).

A good engine swap for a huge increase in power on a lancer is transplanting a scooter engine.

I'd ignore most of the posters on the forums unless they give reasons on why a certain car is bad because most of them are rabid fanboys.

I want to go faster, though mines a '93 glxi
so alot older, but less gay looking than the new ones.
Plus, i'm allowed to have a Lancer, i'm a female, and 17.

I've had one major problem in the 10 months or so i've owned it, but that has nothing to do with the engine, and doesn't happen in any of the newer models, in fact, my year/model was the last type the problem happened, so no need to talk about it anyway.

You are a 17yr old female. You don't need to go fast.

i used to drive a mirage
the worst thing about them was their horrible engines (same engine as the lancer)

totally gutless

15k is a bit steep
for around 18 to 20k you can buy a brand new lancer with a 2 liter or I think the new model is a 2.2 or 2.4 heaps more grunt than a 1.5

I think $15k is too much for a 2002 GLi. I have a 2001 GLXi Lancer (1.8L) with 35,000k's on the clock and I'd be expected to sell it for less than 15k.

edit: Oh yeah, and go 1.8L AT LEAST. As said before the GLi has the same engine as the Mirage and they are just too gutless especially considering the Lancer is heavier.

My sister has a Lancer and by god its s***. They are way to overpriced for what they are. If you want a small sized car, your better off looking into echos, or if its a big/meduim, Commodores and Falcons are popular for a reason :)

i have as little clue about mitsubishi lancers as the majority of posters in this thread but i thought i'd just post n say 'why is there a spoiler on a car that makes 69kw!?' thats just silly. ;P~

I know a number of people with Lancers, and can categorically say they aren't very well made or equipped vehicles. I'd suggest you look at something different.

The 1.5L is a dog too I'm afraid :(

You can do much better for $15K. The mags and spoiler don't add anything much to the worth of the vehicle at all.

4AGE and B16a's are both 1.6L but put out between 90-110kw @ the wheels.
:'(

As everyone said, much better options for 15K.
LOL -> 4g93. :p

2 mates of mine have GLi's, and i wouldnt recomend them. Engine is a gutless wonder, and the build quality is average, both cars have rattles/groaning noises from the plasics in the back/sides of the interiour. And for that kind of money i'd be expecting something amazingly better, esp considering that the magna (which is 'above' the lancer) is such a better built car and cheaper to buy 2nd hand.

Yeah thanks guys i've taken onboard everything you all said (cept for bah - he just says mean things :P).

It's become pretty damn evident of late i really don't know what the hell i want. Today i test drove a nissan pulsar plus '03 and a '94 r33 skyline. I gotta tell you the skyline was pretty sweet.

Its > 1.5L :P (2.5 lol) and its a nissan :P

Not sure about the 12 yo but hey its a skyline.

hmm I don't think getting raped by insurance for owning an import is worth it when it's just a non-turbo r33 with terribly ugly mags.

You must have been able to tell immediately though how much better put together the R33 was compared with a Lancer GLi.

$15K could buy you this btw:
