Agreed with reso hard pressed getting 19' for $300, get a 4-8ms 17' for that price tho, save bit more and get a polyview 19' widescreen 8-)

I managed to get a Samsung SyncMaster 913v (19", 12ms response time) for $495, though you'll probably be hard pressed to find one for that cheap, as I got mine at mates rates. Keep an eye out though, they're a good monitor.

But as has been said, $300 probably wont get you a very good 19" LCD. If you get one for that price, it'll have a s***ty response time.

That CMV doesn't have very good brightness specs and the contrast is only adequate by today's standards. And it has a reduced number of colours.

Still, at $349 it will be ok.

You could buy a much better 17" panel for the same money and get the same maximum resolution btw.

So what's the deal with the widescreen monitors?

As in compatability with games etc. Is Word like super stretched wide, same with websites or do they just have lots of vacant space down the sides?

So many questions..........

From what I can gather, vacant space for normal Windows applications. It's actually pretty cool having a browser and another program open side-by-side.

For full-screen applications like games, you'd want to make sure the game supports your non-standard resolution (id/Valve games do) or a custom resolution, or else the program/game will be stretched as well as low-quality (due to lack of running at native resolution)

Been trying to find something for the past week. Although I am looking for 8ms or less and 16.7m colours. So far apart from the $700+ monitors, the TCL seems to be the only one that meets those criteria and is under $500. Unfortunately I have seen no review on it and all and it looks kinda dodgy so will wait a bit.

wtf, i think you will find that CMV and Polyview are the same company, CMV is the premium Panels and carry a full 30 day Zero Dead Pixel Warranty, which is courier delieved direct swaps. Polyview models are the next graded panels down, and have a much lower pixel swap warranty.

Secondly CMV supply alot of other manufacturers with there panels(lower grade then the cmv branded ones), and for the comment with regards to cmv having lower colors, i doubt u will find a cheap panel out there today with the full 16.7(8bit) million colors while still having a decent response rate and staying under $600, with the majority of them all 16.2(6bit). which for gaming is completly adequet.

I have the CMV 19" LCD screen myself, and i find it to be an excellent monitor for the price $460 i believe i got it for. Colors are fine, Brightness is fine, Response rate is great and works excellent in games. The viewing angles arent the biggest there are, but i have a widescreen tv to watch movies, my pc is for net/games/office.

oh and dear god make sure you enable Cleartype of Truetype fonts in your operating system, it makes text documents look so much frigen better.

I've dealt with alot of the CMV monitors.

I find that there brightness level is usually too high if anything. Contrast level is low.

CMV's jack up the brightness level as a selling point, bad thing is overtime the backlight will die due to this.

Also you will get a fairly noticable glow around the edge of the screen on a black/dark screen.

They are also known for being able to burn an image onto them fairly easily.

Seriously your monitor is probably your longest lasting component...so why skimp on it and buy an inferior product??
